I'm in Marvel, and the System Works for Me
It didn't take long for Geralt and Nancy to meet up with George and Beth.
George and Beth had each brought a male companion.
George's companion was Ace, a third-rate chef at Claw Restaurant. No one knew his surname. He was a good-looking young man obsessed with mystical mumbo jumbo, though he acted a little strangely.
One thing was certain: Ace wasn't George's type.
Besides, George had a mild father complex.
Every boyfriend she'd had was more than ten years older than her.
Beth's companion was Ned Nixon, who had dark skin and naturally curly hair. He liked Nancy and had actively pursued her. Given Nancy's state of mind, Ned probably would have had a chance with her if Geralt hadn't gotten in the way.
Beth hadn't planned to bring a date, but once Ned learned Nancy would be at the party, he bought Beth a mid-range luxury lipstick to secure the spot.
The kid still hadn't given up!
Geralt might not have liked Nancy all that much, but not wanting to eat what was on his plate was one thing. Letting someone else reach over and take it was another.
Men were like that.
In that respect, immature and mature men behaved remarkably alike.
Human nature, perhaps.
Ned could clearly feel Geralt's hostility. He was sending plenty of it right back.
But Nancy kept gazing at Geralt tenderly, piling buffs on him. Ned was utterly defeated.
The barn sold drinks, alcoholic and nonalcoholic alike. Most people there weren't old enough to drink, but who cared? That only made it more exciting.
