"Chief Poirot," Geralt greeted him.

"Geralt."

Chief Poirot was a man in his forties with a slight belly, a composed expression, and an air of authority. "How are John and Mary?"

"They're doing well."

"Good." Chief Poirot glanced at Nancy without much warmth. She had caused him plenty of trouble. "What do you need?"

"Can I ask what you plan to do about the Claw Restaurant?" Geralt asked.

"What do I plan to do?" Chief Poirot said. "The police arrest people. Prosecutors bring charges, and judges deliver verdicts."

After a pause, he added, "The police have to work within the law. All I can do is post officers near the restaurant to keep watch."

"Nancy, don't do anything reckless. These aren't ordinary criminals." Chief Poirot looked at her sternly. "Your father couldn't bear losing his daughter after losing his wife."

"That drunk!" Nancy snapped.

"Chief Poirot's a good man," Geralt remarked after they left the station.

"He is," Nancy agreed. "He's just too rigid and too concerned with saving face."

Seeing Geralt frown slightly, Nancy asked, "Is it going to be difficult?"

Geralt shook his head. "I wouldn't say that."

If the Maya Gang came after Geralt, things would be simple. The trouble was that they were targeting George and the Claw Restaurant. Geralt couldn't just enjoy beating them up and call it done.

Who knew what the bikers might do if provoked? If George suffered an injury that couldn't be undone, what good would it do to send the entire Maya Gang to Hell afterward?

"I'd better find that..." Geralt began.

"Terry," Nancy supplied.

"Right. I'll talk to Terry," Geralt said. "I have a feeling this wasn't really about selling drugs in the restaurant."
