Geralt understood what Luke meant. After a moment's thought, he introduced himself. "Geralt Winchester."
Luke visibly froze. "Winchester... as in that Winchester?"
"That Winchester." Geralt smiled.
Some might object to calling the Winchesters the strongest Demon Hunter family. But add "one of," and who could argue?
A reputation carried weight.
Luke shook Geralt's hand like an awestruck fan. "It's an honor. Really."
After chatting for a while, Geralt left his phone number and drove away.
Once his taillights disappeared, a van pulled up beside Luke.
The driver was a young Black woman with dreadlocks, a nose ring, and tattoos covering her arms. She was Zoe, the office manager at Roman Realty.
Luke got into the passenger seat.
"How did it go, Luke?"
"Not bad."
Luke added, "His last name is... Winchester."
"That Winchester?" Zoe asked, just as Luke had.
"That Winchester," Luke replied, just as Geralt had.
Zoe sighed. "Then we've struck gold."
A bearded man in a floral shirt spoke up from the back seat. "He's awfully young, though. Still wet behind the ears..."
His name was Phil, an investigator for Roman Realty.
Zoe shot him a sidelong glance. "You've got plenty of hair on your face. Can you handle the Wraiths? He went in and came out without even breaking a sweat. What have you done with all your years?"
"You..." Phil choked on his words and fell silent.
"I know you're both in a bad mood," Luke said, "but don't bring it to work."
Zoe had broken up with her girlfriend, and Phil had fought with his boyfriend.
Love made people irritable. Marriage made them explode.
By the time Geralt returned to his home in Black Pine Town, it was almost midnight.
"Sir, I made apple pie."
"Mm.
