Thompson chased after the Shapeshifter into the forest, but his stamina was poor. Before long, he was leaning against a tree trunk, gasping for breath.

"Claire?"
Thompson spotted someone standing ahead, staring at him with icy eyes.
"Why? Why did you treat Shirley like this?" Claire was both furious and heartbroken. "She was so young, so adorable..."
"I didn't want this either, but she was chosen by God..."
"God?!" Claire snapped. "You mean that shit-colored lizard monster?!"
"You don't understand. She is God's incarnation, which is why she can take on anyone's appearance. Isn't that what the myths say? That God can be anyone?"
"God descends upon the world, bringing light and holiness to a filthy, dark world. I am sorry for Shirley's sacrifice, but it was not meaningless."
As he spoke, Thompson sank into a strange frenzy.
Claire stared at him, then said after a moment:
"You're insane."
"I'll leave him to you."
Two people emerged from behind a large tree: Shirley's father, Hank, and her older brother, Sasha.
"Thank you," Shirley's father said.
The father who had lost his daughter had bloodshot eyes. In his hand, he gripped a sharp butcher's knife.
"Claire, you can't do this." Thompson was desperate.
"Do you know? We found out where the monster was hiding yesterday. The reason we chose today, chose to expose it in public while risking innocent people getting hurt, was to prove your innocence. My instincts were right. You weren't the real killer, but you were an accomplice. You're just as hateful as that monster."
After saying that, Claire turned and left.
Thompson shouted, "You can't do this! It's against the law.
