Geralt smiled and started from the hall, covering every corner of the first floor without even sparing the storage room.
The Ghost-Finding Needle's pointer was as steady as an old dog, completely motionless.
There were five rooms on the second floor: the master bedroom, the children's room, the study, and two bathrooms.
Melinda and her son were in the master bedroom, so Geralt decided to start with the children's room next door.
He opened the door.
A wave of icy cold air rushed at him.
Robert shivered.
The previously rock-steady Ghost-Finding Needle trembled slightly.
Robert's expression turned ugly, but he still stubbornly said, "Maybe we forgot to turn off the air conditioning earlier."
Geralt ignored him. "The movement is too slight. It means it has been here, but it isn't here now."
With that, he headed for the study.
The study was a little messy, but the Ghost-Finding Needle, which had been restless before, suddenly stopped moving.
Only the master bedroom and attic remained.
The attic entrance was in the hallway ceiling. There was a pull ring above; when pulled down, it revealed the entrance and lowered a folding ladder.
The Ghost-Finding Needle swung wildly.
"Found it!"
Geralt's face lit up as he prepared to climb the ladder.
Robert's face twisted viciously. He drew a dagger and savagely stabbed at Geralt's lower back.
Just as the dagger was about to pierce Geralt's lower back, a powerful hand tightly seized Robert's wrist.
Naturally, it was Geralt's hand.
Geralt slowly turned around, an amused expression on his face. "Mr. Benjamin, we're both men. How could you bring yourself to stab someone in the kidney?"
The clock turned back to shortly after Melinda had left the day before.
Geralt took out his phone.
