There was no telling where your limits lay until you pushed yourself.
Geralt found a clearing. "We'll stay here until dawn. Build a fire."
They were in a jungle. Firewood was plentiful.
A fire sprang up.
Everyone sat around it.
Then one of Daniel's lackeys edged over to Geralt and said quietly:
"Uh... sir..."
He probably didn't know what to call Geralt.
He wasn't hesitating out of embarrassment.
He was scared.
After all, was someone who could drive off that many monsters single-handedly an ordinary person?
Besides, Geralt had kept a cold expression the whole time.
He looked like someone best left alone.
It wasn't that Geralt was arrogant. He knew all too well that some people took an inch the moment you gave them one.
Geralt glanced over and caught Daniel and his girlfriend Haley sneaking looks their way. He understood at once.
"What is it?" Geralt asked.
"We haven't eaten in two days. Do you have any food? We're not asking for it free. We'll buy it and pay you as soon as we're out of here," Matt said nervously.
Geralt opened his pack and handed over some compressed biscuits, dehydrated vegetables, and a folding pot.
They were backup supplies he rarely needed.
He didn't actually ask for money.
Geralt wasn't obsessed with getting paid.
To him, money was compensation for his work and recognition of his profession.
"Thank you," Matt said hastily.
Druin, one of the outdoor rescue experts, said, "I'll find us something to eat."
The medium asked, "Wouldn't that be dangerous?"
"We're no good at fighting monsters, but we know a thing or two about surviving outdoors," Druin said with a smile.
He turned to Geralt. "Words can't repay what you've done. We'll do what we can. We won't cause any trouble."
"All right." Geralt
