Geralt kicked the Shapeshifter hard in the lower back.
The Shapeshifter flew forward and landed in front of the crowd.
Everything happened in an instant. Most people were stunned by the sudden appearance of a humanoid figure before them.
After freezing for a second or two, Martin and the other officers finally reacted and aimed their guns at Geralt.
The Shapeshifter had transformed into one of Martin's subordinates. In other words, to everyone else, Geralt had just kicked a police officer flying.
"Hands up!"
"Don't move!"
Geralt slowly raised his hands and said with a smile, "I think you're focusing on the wrong person."
A wave of startled cries rose from the crowd.
The kicked police officer's body swelled, bursting through his clothes, and took on the form of an upright Chameleon.
"Oh God, you sinners, what have you done to God?!!!"
Thompson shouted.
It turned out that the "god" the chief had spoken of was the Shapeshifter.
That meant Thompson truly was not Shirley's murderer, just as Claire had instinctively believed. But he was far from as innocent as he claimed.
After another second of stunned silence, Martin and the others finally came to their senses.
They all turned their guns toward the Shapeshifter.
The Shapeshifter shot Geralt a venomous look, then charged into the crowd.
The officers were afraid of hitting innocent civilians and did not dare fire.
The scene descended into complete chaos. The Shapeshifter seized the chance to flee and quickly vanished into the forest.
"What the hell is going on?"
Martin turned toward Geralt, only to find the place where Geralt had been standing completely empty.
"Just as you saw, that's what happened."
