In Marvel, My System Works for Me
"Did you call the police?" Geralt asked.
Melinda nodded, then gave a bitter smile. "I was lucky they didn't think I was crazy."
Ordinary police officers would have been no help. This wasn't their kind of case.
Even if they wanted to help, they couldn't.
"What about the Church? Most people trust the Church more than other specialists," Geralt said.
"The Church... My husband absolutely hates the Church. I don't know why." Melinda had emphasized "absolutely." "I secretly started wearing a cross and hid several holy statues around the house. But... would asking the Church for help work?"
"It would. An organization that's survived for tens of thousands of years must have its reasons for existing. But..." Geralt said, "Don't count on the priests in Black Pine Town. They've read the Bible and are good at talking people into things... I mean, they're eloquent."
"Besides, the Church's exorcism procedures are complicated. First, the request has to go up through several levels. Then there's a thorough medical examination to rule out mental illness. Finally, they send a priest capable of exorcism from headquarters or somewhere else."
"The most efficient branches are the Inquisition and the Knights Templar. But the Knights Templar's main duty is to guard Church headquarters and protect the pope, so they rarely deploy. As for the Inquisition... their goal is to eliminate heresy at any cost. Do you understand what 'any cost' means? Often, the person being exorcised is the cost."
"Five thousand Beli."
Once Melinda was convinced, Geralt named his price.
It was the guild's standard D-Rank rate.
Not expensive.
But for Melinda, it was no small sum, especially after she had emptied her savings to buy the house.
Melinda lowered her head and said nothing.
Geralt sighed.
