Nancy promptly lost herself in the beautiful lines, her cheeks flushed and her eyes glistening.
The peach was ripe.
Those words really were devastating.
Geralt scratched his head. If only he had a thicker skin, he could have run his fingers through her golden hair and let their lips meet.
Sparks would have flown!
"It's almost time." Nancy checked the clock. "Time went by so fast."
Of course it had.
Good company made time fly; bad company made every minute drag.
She had looked forward to the party, but now she could barely muster any interest. If she hadn't made plans with George and Beth, Nancy would have loved to skip it.
Geralt drove, with Nancy in the passenger seat serving as his human navigator. A little after eight, they reached the party venue:
An abandoned barn.
It was even an old-fashioned barn with a steel frame and a conical roof.
There was no parking lot nearby, and out in the middle of nowhere, they hardly needed one. People parked wherever they found space. As they passed, Geralt noticed a few cars rocking to varying degrees, giving away what was happening inside.
It was eight o'clock, and people were still lining up outside the barn.
Burly men in suits and sunglasses guarded the entrance.
They acted like bouncers at an upscale nightclub, which was exactly the sort of thing teenagers went for.
Geralt frowned. "Was it always like this?"
Nancy looked baffled. "No."
Standing in line was annoying, but they had come all this way, and Geralt didn't want to spoil Nancy's fun.
After waiting about ten minutes and getting fluorescent stamps on the backs of their hands, they finally entered the barn.
Thumping music and dazzling lights—it certainly had the feel of a nightclub.
