Spider-Man's Troubles

Spider-Man took the scolding without the slightest temper.

He had long since taken off his spider mask and tossed it aside.

George scolded him for a while, until he was panting heavily himself. It took him quite some time to calm down. He glared at Spider-Man with an ugly expression. "Why aren't you saying anything?"

"What do you want me to say, Captain Stacy...?"

Though George was his future father-in-law, he was not yet, so Spider-Man did not dare speak carelessly.

"I had no idea something like this would happen. He never told us about it, okay? I... I... I only found out after the fight was over too. Ah, what a shame. If I'd known I was going to show my face to the whole world, I would've taken off my mask sooner. What a shame... what a shame." As he spoke, Spider-Man sighed and shook his head, looking thoroughly regretful.

That only made Captain George even angrier. He was so angry that he laughed. "Fine. If you want to take it off, go outside and do it now."

"Ahem... I... I was only... only joking." Spider-Man did not dare.

He did not care what outsiders thought. What worried him were Uncle Ben and Aunt May's opinions, as well as Gwen Stacy's safety. As he caught more and more criminals, he made more and more enemies. Gwen was just an ordinary person. If his identity were exposed, she would probably be in great danger.

Most importantly, George had made a Gentleman's Agreement with him—he could not take off his mask for the rest of his life. Otherwise... he could forget about marrying Gwen.

For the sake of a happy life, and for Gwen's safety, Spider-Man could only remain a hero who never showed his face.
