Iron Hammer was very careful with the fire. He only ignited the barrel closest to the left. Though the explosion sounded earth-shaking, it could only burn a small patch of the far-left area.
This was merely a simple test.
He did not care whether Gold Hammer was dead or alive, but Daniel had to survive.
The result was quite good. He heard something.
A sound came from the barrel at the very center, clearly a trace that only a living creature could make.
Yet the figure he expected did not appear. His keen hearing told him there was movement within the gaps between the barrels.
Those two bastards were trying to run!
Though he had no idea what method they had used, he knew he could not let them leave now.
Ignoring the flames beside him, he charged straight into the wine cellar. But the densely packed barrels offered nowhere to hide, let alone any sign of Daniel.
They had vanished!
Iron Hammer sniffed hard. He could still catch the scent of both of them, and it was exceptionally clear. That proved they were nearby—but where had they gone?
Bang!
Just then, a sound suddenly rang out in the wine cellar, as though something had fallen. Iron Hammer instinctively looked toward the corner. At the turn in the wall, he saw a clumsy, fat golden rat desperately pumping its paws, clutching the wall's edge and scrambling upward. Yet no matter how hard it tried, every time it climbed to the height of a person, it fell back down.
At that moment, a gray rat was squeaking in midair against the wall, as if urging something on.
"It's them!"
Iron Hammer recognized the golden rat as his cousin at a glance, because that scent was more familiar to him than anything.
