Jiraiya first appears as a mischievous child caught spying through a women’s bathhouse ventilation opening. He unsuccessfully claims to be researching the building’s earthquake resistance and receives a punishment of copying the Ninja Academy’s code of conduct one hundred times. 12

At the Academy, he becomes closely associated with Tsunade and Orochimaru.
