The first Ninja Soldier charged into the enemy ranks and cut down three thugs, only to be forcibly sent back by a lunatic holding a grenade. More and more Ninja Soldiers kept bursting into the enemy camp, slaughtering the enemies to the last.
"It's over." Lu Qi watched as the Ninja Soldiers wiped out every last one of them and spoke calmly.
"Looks like we won't be getting much loot unless you want their guns or something. If we're lucky, we might find some loose change." Watching the carnage below, Lu Qi spoke to The Punisher while having the Ninja Soldiers quickly search the bodies.
"Forget it. I'm used to using my own stuff," The Punisher said indifferently.
"Your strength surpassed my expectations too. I only knew your abilities were useful for infiltration or assassination missions. I never expected you to be this strong in a direct fight."
The Punisher recalled seeing several Ninja Soldiers join forces to forcibly block the incoming bullets, standing firm amid the hail of gunfire.
He had seen a few people whose bodies could stop bullets, but this was the first time he had seen someone use weapons to chop every bullet out of the air.
Deadpool: You have no idea how much more there is that you don't know.
"You have no idea how much more there is that you don't know," Lu Qi joked. He had the Ninja Soldiers take several guns and some ammunition before leaving the area.
After parting ways with The Punisher outside the city, Lu Qi went to a hotel in the bustling center of Big Apple. After checking in, he used today's ad acceleration and looked at his remaining Dark Energy. He raised the number of Ninja Soldiers to 200, because their strength had exceeded his expectations.
He had thought it was already impressive that the Ninja Soldiers could withstand fire from nearly ten rifles. He had never expected them to join forces and literally carve out a path through a storm of bullets.
But with such clearly defined division of labor, how did these guys communicate?
Lu Qi had never seen them talk in the anime either. Most of the time, they seemed to understand each other with just a look.
He summoned several Ninja Soldiers and asked them about it.
The Ninja Soldiers stared at one another for quite a while. Lu Qi really couldn't stand watching anymore, so he could only send them back to the Shadow World.
Lu Qi shook his head and started playing games in the hotel. Coulson had gotten his account banned yesterday, but it had been unbanned today, so he could keep playing.
After getting slaughtered for a while, Lu Qi suddenly had an idea. He summoned a Ninja Soldier and taught him the controls, then had him play. He discovered that the Ninja Soldier's coordination was absurdly good. All ten fingers performed their own duties on the controller as though they had minds of their own, producing keyboard-and-mouse-level moves with a controller.
Its physical abilities matched Lu Qi's, and its reaction speed matched his as well. Combined with those nimble fingers, it managed to rack up better results than even Coulson.
Then why was I still getting slaughtered?
Satisfied, Lu Qi had the Ninja Soldier play for him while he considered how much money he could make by having Ninja Soldiers take boosting jobs.
After sleeping for a while, Lu Qi sat up and found that the Ninja Soldier was still playing for him.
He sent the Ninja Soldier back, opened his match history, and smugly looked at the records of one-sided massacres. He took a screenshot and posted it on the social network he had just registered for.
'Coulson liked your post.'
Not long after, Lu Qi received a notification that someone had liked his post.
When he checked, he found it was Coulson. Lu Qi thought for a moment. It seemed S.H.I.E.L.D. still wanted to repair its relationship with him.
Lu Qi replied, "You're drawing a taxpayer-funded salary, so why aren't you out there serving the taxpayers?"
Coulson replied with a sweating emoji and said nothing else.
Heh. Caught you slacking off, didn't I?
Lu Qi stretched lazily in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, welcoming the morning sun.
A dart suddenly pierced the tempered glass in front of him and embedded itself in the wall behind him.
Lu Qi turned around in surprise. This was the twentieth floor. What kind of dart could fly this high?
He noticed a note attached to the dart. After taking it down and reading it, he found that it was a message from Bullseye.
Oh, that guy.
Lu Qi recalled Bullseye's appearance: a bald man with a target-like mark on his forehead.
Bullseye possessed extraordinary throwing skills. Even a paper clip could kill in his hands, and he was Kingpin's chief expert.
Still, although Bullseye had the hallmarks of a strong fighter, he was not actually all that powerful. His uncanny assassination skills were formidable, but Lu Qi decided that today he would have several Shadow Ninjas hide in the dark and capture S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. It never hurt to guard against one more person.
The note contained some nonsense mixing threats and temptations, trying to persuade him to join Kingpin. Lu Qi tossed it away without a second thought.
What a joke. It had already been ten years. Tony would be captured this year, and the age of superheroes was about to begin. Defecting now would be like investing in Samsung one second and having your phone explode the next.
Ignoring the little note, Lu Qi prepared to head out and have some fun.
He sent Coulson a message asking for a few Kingpin hideouts to mess around with.
Coulson responded quickly and sent several addresses. Lu Qi looked them over and found that they were all in other cities.
He had never been there, so he couldn't draw a portal to them. Sneaking there would take several hours too. Feeling too lazy to move, Lu Qi simply decided to look for some fun nearby and see whether he might stumble into some hero-saves-the-beauty scenario.
"So why is it you?"
Lu Qi tossed an unconscious punk aside and looked at the woman pretending to be pitiful in front of him.
He had come to save a beauty, not these little punks.
Natasha was dressed fashionably, like an urban professional, but Lu Qi was a man who knew the plot. Unmoved, he said, "Why did Egghead send you?"
"Who's Egghead?" Natasha kept pretending, wondering when her intelligence had been exposed.
Not wanting to keep playing games with S.H.I.E.L.D., Lu Qi sighed.
"Madam Romanoff, the famous Black Widow, stop pretending."
"Fine, I don't want to pretend anymore either. And I have to say, Egghead is a very fitting nickname." Natasha sighed, planning to go back and have a good fight with the intelligence officers.
"Of course. That's the unified opinion of countless people," Lu Qi mocked.
Natasha chimed in from time to time, and somehow the two of them started discussing Egghead's egg-shaped head, making the intelligence officers listening in from elsewhere fear they were about to be silenced.
After receiving a message from the Shadow Ninjas and learning that there were no other agents nearby, Lu Qi asked in confusion, "Why did you show up alone?"
Natasha did not suspect that Lu Qi was trying to bluff her and answered directly, "Egghead told us yesterday to stop watching you. All the agents around you were pulled back, but then I found this."
While marveling at how quickly Natasha had learned to use the nickname, Lu Qi watched her drag someone out from the shadows.
"Holy shit, Bullseye?" Bullseye had just passed him a little note, yet in the next moment, he had been caught red-handed.
"You know him?" Natasha asked in confusion.
How did this guy know everything? Didn't the intelligence department say he knew nothing?
So what exactly did he know, and what did he not know?
Growing increasingly frustrated, Natasha sighed and angrily kicked Bullseye, who was lying on the ground.
"Fury sent me to find you today. Then I saw this guy throw a dart toward you, so I simply knocked him out and brought him over."
As a future Avengers member, Natasha was no weakling. She was even stronger than many superheroes, so catching Bullseye was not particularly surprising.
"You came all this way, and you even brought a gift?"
Lu Qi took out his phone and snapped a photo with Bullseye, then sent it to The Punisher. After receiving a message saying he would arrive soon, Lu Qi said to Natasha,
"Is there anything you need me to do? You know, returning favors and all that." In truth, Lu Qi was bored and wanted to find something fun to do.
"Fury sent me to try to lure you into working for us. Although the original plan has failed, the result is still good. At least you're willing to help us now."
Natasha took out her phone and left Lu Qi a number. She gave him a flirtatious look before leaving.
"If there's a mission, I'll contact you. Coulson is busy with more urgent matters right now."
Lu Qi saved the number under the name Natalie, then waited for The Punisher to arrive in the alley.
