Mordo quickly brought in a group of mages—fifteen of them.
Lu Qi had them prepare themselves. At the same time, the Shadow Army appeared, with Ninja Soldiers and Blade Soldiers forming small squads.
Once everyone was ready, Lu Qi opened a dimension. A crack appeared, and he transferred it to the edge of the Shadow World.
He then brought Mordo and the others here and glanced at the situation on the other side.
"How is it?" Mordo asked.
"There are enemies," Lu Qi replied. He had already received the system prompt and spotted humanoid creatures on the other side gathering their warriors.
"I'll send the Shadow Army in first. You just need to guard this crack. If things get too bad, retreat. My Shadow Ninjas can revive endlessly."
As Lu Qi spoke, he sent the Shadow Army forward, catching the enemy off guard.
Mordo nodded. He exchanged glances with the mages behind him, formed up, and jointly cast a large defensive magic array.
Lu Qi looked at the defensive array and noticed that more than a hundred points of his energy were disappearing every second, though he was replenishing it himself, so he did not care much.
The enemy army had yet to fully assemble, but the squads of Shadow Ninjas had already charged in and shattered their battle formation.
These cannon fodder troops had combat capabilities roughly equal to Andrews's subordinates, but their numbers far exceeded Andrews's.
Lu Qi suddenly discovered that as long as his Shadow Army remained within the enemy's Dark Dimension, they could extract its Dark Energy. He was pleasantly surprised; he had originally thought he would need to kill every enemy before he could extract Dark Energy.
On the other side, the Shadow Army's squads coordinated with one another and forcibly split off a small section of the enemy's main force. Squad after squad rushed in, wiped out that section of enemies, then prepared to continue fighting.
But the enemy Mage Corps had finished preparing. Fireballs flew out, destroying Shadow Ninja after Shadow Ninja.
"That magic is pretty powerful. Can you use it?"
Lu Qi watched for a moment. Every one of those fireballs was about as powerful as a grenade.
He turned to Mordo, who shook his head as well.
"Why is their magic like this? How strange," Mordo said in confusion.
Lu Qi rubbed his forehead. What did Mordo mean, their magic was strange? Clearly, Mordo's magic was the strange one!
Watching the Shadow Army he had sent over get wiped out, Lu Qi summoned them again.
"Get ready to hold the line!" Lu Qi shouted at Mordo.
Mordo nodded. Seeing the enemy's main force, he felt somewhat nervous as well. They had never experienced a battle on this scale.
A figure emerged from the enemy formation as it steadily approached, using Dark Energy to widen the spatial crack and allow the main force through.
"In your dreams!" Lu Qi stretched out a hand and held the crack in place.
"In the name of Lu Qi, I declare that Dark Energy shall no longer accept you!"
He applied a buff to the enemy. This was already Lu Qi's limit; otherwise, he would have directly ordered the Dark Energy to turn against him.
The enemy's Dark Energy suddenly went out of control, turning his face ashen. Yet he did not dare make any further moves and immediately slipped back into the formation.
"Engage!" Lu Qi shouted. The enemy's first wave of infantry charged over, wielding all kinds of weapons and striking the defensive array, only to be firmly blocked by it.
A horn sounded from the enemy side. The infantry stopped focusing on the defensive array and instead spread to both sides, trying to encircle it.
"In your dreams." Lu Qi sent the newly resummoned Shadow Ninjas forward. Fierce fighting broke out on both sides of the defensive array.
Landing behind the defensive array, Lu Qi shouted to Mordo, "Do you have any long-range attack spells?"
Mordo nodded. Several mages behind him released their hold on the array, and magic arrays appeared in their hands. Dark Energy was drawn into the arrays and transformed into attacks of various forms. Chain lightning danced, energy darts pierced through the air, and a group of infantry that had just arrived was wiped out, reducing the pressure on the defensive array.
The Shadow Ninjas on both sides also spread out. Each took up a position and did not attack, simply holding their ground and blocking enemy attacks, stopping the enemy while occasionally slashing at them.
Blade Soldiers relied on their extreme speed to weave back and forth through the enemy formation, disrupting it and preventing them from massing for a charge.
Some revived Shadow Ninjas saw the crowded front line and simply started throwing all kinds of concealed weapons from the rear. In any case, those weapons consumed very little Dark Energy.
Soon, the first wave of infantry was completely eliminated. Their corpses rapidly vanished as Dark Energy assimilated them.
Lu Qi flew up to observe the enemy's next move.
He saw them pushing out several cannon-like devices and aiming them in his direction.
"Can your array withstand cannons?" Lu Qi asked.
?
Mordo could not see the enemy formation either and had no idea what was happening.
The next second, the enemy cannons fired. Energy blasts bombarded the defensive array, scattering the previously stable formation and sending Mordo and the others flying.
Still, they had managed to block the attack. Seeing the enemy still reloading, Lu Qi's expression turned grim.
Before Mordo and the others could reform their array, Lu Qi stood before the spatial rift and sent Blade Soldier after Blade Soldier charging forward.
With no time to mourn the energy cost, Lu Qi simply mass-produced Blade Soldiers, raising their numbers to one hundred. A new troop type appeared, but he had no time to check it.
More than a hundred Blade Soldiers left afterimages as they sprinted forward, trying to get close to the enemy cannons.
But the enemy infantry stepped forward and, at tremendous cost, forcibly stopped the Blade Soldiers, buying time for the cannons to fire.
Balls of energy crossed the spatial rift and shot toward Lu Qi.
Lu Qi shouted as countless strands of Dark Energy gathered and formed a shield, blocking the barrage. It still cost him nearly three thousand energy points. No wonder those attacks could destroy a large defensive magic array.
Lu Qi watched the Blade Soldiers get held back, unable to destroy the enemy cannons. The Ninja Soldiers lacked decisive power; even if they joined, they would not be able to cross the enemy formation and attack the cannons behind it.
He checked the newly unlocked troop type, froze for a moment, then became overjoyed.
He had been worrying about lacking decisive power. Hadn't it just arrived?
Troll Soldier!
Excluding the Shadow Eater Soldier, which could grow infinitely large, the Troll Soldier was the largest troop type in the Shadow Army. This troop type possessed immense strength, though its weakness was low agility.
But the cannons before him had little mobility and had to be pushed by people.
Lu Qi looked at the requirements to add a Troll Soldier.
Fifty Shadow Ninjas, plus five hundred points of Shadow Energy.
Lu Qi frowned. It was too expensive—nearly eight thousand energy points each—but there was no time to worry about that now.
After blocking another barrage, Lu Qi had Mordo and the others take over.
Blood trickled from the corner of Mordo's mouth as he called over several other mages and forcibly cast a defensive shield. Lu Qi checked the enemy cannons. There were four in total, so he summoned four Troll Soldiers.
Five-meter-tall Troll Soldiers stood before the formation, crossed the spatial crack, and slowly ran toward the enemy cannons.
Though they were slow compared to the other ninjas, they were still as fast as a small car.
Lu Qi did not have them block the cannon fire. Instead, he and Mordo's group took turns blocking it. These hulking creatures did not have particularly strong defenses, but their strength was formidable—at least ten tons.
If they blocked cannon fire, they would only block one shot before needing to be resummoned. But if they attacked those cannons, the enemy infantry could never stop them.
Arrows shot out from the rear of the enemy formation, flying toward those obviously dangerous hulking creatures.
Facing the arrow rain that blotted out the sky, the Troll Soldiers raised their hands to shield their heads and charged forward with their heads down.
Arrows embedded themselves in their hands, but they seemed incapable of feeling pain and continued charging.
Lu Qi had the Ninja Soldiers go help the Troll Soldiers block arrows, then had the Blade Soldiers turn back and advance in formation alongside the Troll Soldiers.
Lu Qi did not understand formations, but these ninjas' combat instincts allowed them to appear wherever they were needed, no different from forming a battle formation.
A large force of the Shadow Army split into four units and sent the troops before them flying.
A group of infantry blocked the Troll Soldiers, but the Troll Soldiers ignored the weapons thrusting toward them. Their enormous hands swept out, flinging every enemy before them away. Even shields were smashed to pieces by a single punch from a Troll Soldier. Their strength left Lu Qi clicking his tongue in amazement.
The enemy was shocked as well and hurriedly turned the cannons to deal with the Troll Soldiers, but Blade Soldier after Blade Soldier blocked the continuous energy attacks.
If they had been physical projectiles, they might have hit the Troll Soldiers. But energy attacks lacked penetrating power and achieved little, instead making things easier for Lu Qi's side.
Watching Lu Qi's army advance with unstoppable momentum, Mordo remembered the man who had once been chased around in a panic by a group of mages. He could hardly believe they were the same person.
The Dimension Lord on the other side charged out in fury, leading the Mage Corps in unleashing all kinds of spells at the Troll Soldiers. Yet Ninja Soldier after Ninja Soldier and Blade Soldier after Blade Soldier surged forward without fear, forcibly blocking the barrage-like magical attacks.
Watching his troops steadily dwindle, Lu Qi grew anxious as well. If the enemy successfully defeated the Troll Soldiers, the battle would return to how it had begun, and the enemy might not let the Troll Soldiers cross the spatial rift again.
He could slowly grind the enemy down, but his side currently held the advantage. It would be better to finish them off directly.
"You all go wait to the side. Don't use Dark Energy for now." Looking at the hundred thousand-plus energy he had left, Lu Qi waved a hand, and countless strands of Dark Energy from the Shadow Dimension gathered around him.
"Hah." Lu Qi took a deep breath. He knew the enemy's Dark Energy could not be used by him, so he would simply enter battle carrying the Dark Energy from his own space!
More than a hundred thousand units of Dark Energy gathered around Lu Qi, forming armor and wings, making him look like a Dimensional Demon God.
Lu Qi leaped lightly into the enemy dimension. The energy wings behind him automatically spread open and carried him toward the enemy formation without needing to flap.
"You're courting death!" the Dimension Lord shouted. He and the Mage Corps launched magical attacks together, all kinds of energy attacks striking toward Lu Qi, only to be blocked by Dark Energy.
Lu Qi shot into the sky, locked onto the enemy Mage Corps, and wrapped himself in energy, turning into a cannonball as he crashed toward the ground.
A black shadow flashed. Lu Qi smashed into the center of the Mage Corps, crushing a group of mages into pulp. Dark Energy spread outward like vines, grabbing those enemies and crushing them apart.
The Dimension Lord attacked, lightning flashing in his hand as he threw a punch at Lu Qi.
Lu Qi commanded Dark Energy to surround and envelop him. The Dimension Lord did not surrender without resistance. Knowing Dark Energy's nature, he released his own energy and exhausted all the Dark Energy around him.
"Hmph." Lu Qi gathered his energy and threw a punch at him, but the man suddenly drew a longsword and stabbed at Lu Qi.
Sensing the unusual energy fluctuations on the longsword, Lu Qi used Dark Energy to yank his charging body back.
Without a weapon, Lu Qi simply summoned clumps of energy and condensed them in his hands until they formed a spear.
The two began fighting. Every one of Lu Qi's moves carried vast amounts of Dark Energy and possessed immense force. Thus, even though he only knew how to thrust and smash, he could still trade blows with his opponent.
Damn it! the Dimension Lord roared furiously inside. Why could Lu Qi disable his Dark Energy? Why?!
If his Dark Energy had not been disabled, he could have defeated Lu Qi in just a few moves.
But there were no ifs. Lu Qi was the Dark Lord, and he ranked above him!
The two gradually fought from the ground into the sky, shockwaves erupting between them one after another.
Leaving afterimages in the air, Lu Qi glanced at the Troll Soldiers, who had already reached the cannons. Once they destroyed the cannons, he could join forces with the Shadow Army to deal with this boss.
The Dimension Lord noticed this as well and abandoned Lu Qi to attack the Troll Soldiers.
"In your dreams!" Lu Qi's speed was directly proportional to his Dark Energy consumption.
Consuming thirty thousand energy, Lu Qi appeared before the Dimension Lord in the blink of an eye.
Amid the shock in his opponent's eyes, he thrust his spear forward.
Blood sprayed through the air. The Dimension Lord clutched his chest and staggered back repeatedly.
"You can actually use Dark Energy like this!" Feeling Dark Energy continuously seep into his body through the wound, the Dimension Lord coughed up blood.
"That was your mistake." Lu Qi had not expected the other side to directly attack the Troll Soldiers. While they had both been moving extremely fast in the air, Lu Qi had not been certain he could hit him.
But now, seeing the enemy's miserable state, Lu Qi raised his spear and pointed it at him.
That man merely smiled. "Just wait. I'll definitely come back!"
With that, his figure vanished.
Extracting Dark Energy was incredibly slow anyway. He knew this dimension's coordinates, so he could simply return later with reinforcements.
Lu Qi had not expected him to flee outright and did not react in time.
Right. This was the enemy's dimension. He could leave whenever he wanted...
Having miscalculated, Lu Qi simply turned around and joined the Shadow Army in wiping out the troops left behind.
