On the plaza of Xandar, Lu Qi happily tossed one credential after another in his hand. Behind him, Rocket watched the scene and said to Star-Lord unhappily, "So after all that, we didn't earn a damn thing on this trip. We might as well have handed you over to Yondu. At least we could've made forty thousand."

Beside them, Groot heard that and proudly pulled out the credential from inside his chest armor.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, you still kept one hundred million. But we didn't get anything at all!"

Rocket's ears drooped as he looked at the credential Groot had taken out, and his whole body went limp with dejection.

Back on the ship, Lu Qi had made up excuse after excuse and forcibly whittled Groot's share down until only one hundred million remained.

From Rocket's perspective, after watching the whole thing from the sidelines, Lu Qi had probably only left Groot that much because he had enjoyed chatting with him.

Lu Qi led the way ahead. Hearing Rocket complain behind him, he merely smiled.

Don't think that just because I'm not interfering with the plot, you'll get to make money. If things followed the plot, you'd run around with Star-Lord all that time and still end up earning nothing.

In the original plot, when Star-Lord and the others went to see The Collector, The Collector had already laid the money out on the table. Then that maid came out and caused trouble, leaving them without a single credit before they fled.

Even after they risked their lives to save Xandar, those cheapskates at the Nova Corps only fixed Star-Lord's ship. The parts had even been salvaged from the battlefield.

Not only did they pay nothing, they even got a Power Stone for free afterward.
