A Pretty Dumb Goose

After Zhang Shou and the others had adjusted, Yu Xian did not stay on the sixth floor. Instead, he prepared to head downstairs and continue clearing out the Aberrant Insects.

If he had not discovered surviving students in the sixth-floor classrooms, some of whom urgently needed treatment to stop their bleeding, he had originally planned to keep going down and kill every Aberrant Insect in the teaching building.

Now that Zhang Shou and the others were responsible for bandaging the surviving students' wounds, all he had to do was kill the Aberrant Insects as quickly as possible and save more classmates.

"Wait, I'll go with you!" Nora said, finally gathering her courage.

Yu Xian looked at Nora as though he were looking at a glittering golden dumb goose. Just as he was about to refuse, Nora said, "Let me come with you, and I'll give you twenty jin of silver next time!"

"Deal!" Yu Xian agreed at once.

Silver was ridiculously expensive now. Twenty jin of silver should last him a long time.

The two went down to the fifth floor. With a flick of Yu Xian's finger, silver threads instantly slaughtered several Aberrant Insects that were biting students in the corridor. Nora did not idle either, quickly taking out her handgun and aiming at an Aberrant Insect in the distance.

A gunshot rang out, and the Aberrant Insect's body exploded on the spot.

Yu Xian was slightly startled as he looked at the gun in Nora's hand. He had not expected its bullets to be so powerful.

"I hit it, I hit it!" Nora muttered excitedly as she watched the fallen Aberrant Insect.

She then aimed at the Aberrant Insects that had run out after hearing the gunshot and pulled the trigger repeatedly. One Aberrant Insect after another exploded beneath the gunfire.

A class had roughly twenty-five to thirty students, but only around five to ten of them would be infected by Aberrant Insects. There were four classes on each floor of the teaching building, so there were roughly thirty to forty Aberrant Insects per floor.

Nora's handgun had fifteen bullets in total. After killing fifteen Aberrant Insects in succession, she began frantically reloading.

Naturally, the Aberrant Insects had no intention of giving her the chance to reload. They rushed out from behind the classroom cover, but before they could get close, Yu Xian controlled his silver threads and cut them down.

After confirming that all the Aberrant Insects on the fifth floor were dead, the two went down to the fourth floor.

They used the same method: Nora first killed some of the Aberrant Insects with her handgun, then used reloading to lure them into launching an all-out assault, after which Yu Xian wiped out the charging Aberrant Insects in one final wave.

"Do you have enough bullets?"

As they went down to the third floor, Yu Xian asked.

Nora nodded. "Enough. I prepared a hundred thousand bullets."

Ever since she had been attacked by "ordinary people," she had specially prepared a handgun and ammunition, with more than enough of both.

On the third floor, the two worked together seamlessly and killed all the Aberrant Insects in less than a minute. After confirming that none had slipped through the net, they continued down to the second floor.

"Are you also... a vampire?" Nora walked behind him, giving Yu Xian a complicated look before asking quietly.

Yu Xian walked ahead and answered frankly, "Yes. I had ALS. If I hadn't become a vampire, I would have died. I heard that because of me, you were not only attacked by violent criminals but also ostracized by other students at school. I'm sorry."

He had already prepared himself mentally when he called the police. Once this disaster was resolved, he would flee for his life and never return to human society until he became invincible.

"So that's how it is."

Nora looked at Yu Xian with a complicated expression and murmured softly.

When they reached the second floor, Nora immediately cast aside her stray thoughts. She gripped her handgun with both hands and kept firing at the Aberrant Insects. Once she had emptied the magazine, she took out more bullets and reloaded while watching Yu Xian.

The remaining Aberrant Insects seized the opportunity to launch an all-out attack. Yu Xian swung his finger downward, and a silver thread fell like a wave. In an instant, the Aberrant Insects were sliced into all sorts of strange shapes.

At that moment, the teacher who had fled earlier rushed out of a classroom, leaped from the corridor, and landed on the plaza below.

"Still trying to run!"

Seeing this, Yu Xian immediately pressed one hand against the railing and likewise jumped from the second floor to the plaza.

Before he could make a move, a gunshot rang out. The upper half of the teacher's body, which had been parasitized by an Aberrant Insect, exploded, and the teacher fell to the ground.

Upstairs, Nora held up her gun. When Yu Xian turned around, she gave him a sly smile. Just then, a gust of wind blew past, sending her golden hair drifting in the breeze. The bright scene made Yu Xian blink.

Yu Xian took back his earlier thought.

She was not a glittering golden dumb goose, but... a pretty dumb goose.

Suddenly, terror appeared in Nora's eyes. She opened her mouth as though she wanted to say something.

"Watch out!"

The moment Nora's warning rang out, a black shadow flashed past.

Yu Xian reacted quickly. He had begun dodging the instant Nora's eyes widened slightly, but the black shadow still sliced off one of his arms.

Thud!

A rectangular signboard slammed heavily onto the steps of the teaching building.

Yu Xian's blood flowed down from the top of the signboard, running through the words "School Ahead, Slow Down," before finally dripping onto the ground.

Yu Xian clutched his wound and glanced at the signboard before immediately turning around. At some point, a woman dressed in business attire had crouched atop the school wall.

"Hey, little brother, I came to play with you!"

The woman wore a crazed smile, but the voice coming from her was male.

Yu Xian's expression turned grave. Silver light flickered in his eyes as he gritted his teeth and said, "You're the bastard on the other end of the phone... You bastard!!!"

"Yes, yes, I'm that bastard!" The woman jumped down from the wall and said with a smile, "Let me introduce myself. My name is Zhou Tai. I used to be human, but now my identity is... an Aberrant Insect."

He slowly walked over to the corpse of the teacher parasitized by an Aberrant Insect and crouched down in front of it. "Tsk, tsk. It clearly had such a powerful body, yet it didn't know how to use it. What a waste."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Upstairs, taking advantage of Zhou Tai's awkward position while crouching, Nora immediately fired three shots at him.

Yet no explosions followed. Instead, Zhou Tai now had three bullets in his hand. He stood up and smiled. "Bullets aren't actually that fast. Every Aberrant Insect has the ability to dodge them. It's just that Aberrant Insects have pretended to be human for too long. Even after their consciousness awakens and they realize they aren't human, they still follow some of humanity's bad habits. Their reaction speed and movement speed are both constrained by their subconscious."

Humans possessed self-protection mechanisms. When controlling muscle movements, they automatically set a safety threshold to prevent muscle and bone damage from excessive exertion.

Many Aberrant Insects were affected by this, so they could only use around fifty percent of their true strength.

Zhou Tai's personality was different. He had never cared about his own body and was the type to mutilate himself to achieve his goals. Thus, after his personality entered this body, its strength was completely unleashed.

"Here, have them back, miss!"

With a flick of his hand, the three bullets immediately shot toward Nora upstairs.

Boom!

Midair, the bullets collided with the silver threads and instantly exploded.

Yu Xian's body had already turned pitch-black. He swung his finger downward, and the silver threads extending upward immediately slashed toward Zhou Tai.
