Conifers hundreds of meters tall wore thick armor of ice, their branches moaning in the howling wind.
Farther away, gray-white mountains stretched to the edge of sight like the backs of sleeping beasts.

Loki's deafening laughter tore through the blizzard, sending a ring of snowy mist rolling outward. He raised his warhammer high, then brought it crashing down toward the tiny figure below. The hammerhead dragged a suffocating gale behind it.
Before the hammer struck, the pressure of its descent flattened the snow for dozens of meters below, exposing black permafrost frozen hard as iron.
Boom!
At the point of impact, the snowfield collapsed across thousands of meters as though trampled by a giant god. A visible ring of force exploded outward, stripping away the snow to reveal dark permafrost beneath. Fine cracks spread like a spiderweb.
Within several miles, the enormous beasts that survived in the Underworld's strange environment whimpered in terror. Driven by instinct, they fled for their lives, knocking down pillars of ice.
But as the snow haze spread, there was no sign of Loki's target.
