Amid the mist, a colossal skull-shaped island loomed faintly into view. Its gaping maw resembled a gateway to hell, while dim yellow lights glimmered within its deep eye sockets.

Pavilions and towers had been built along the mountainside. Carved railings and jade-like masonry gave off a cold gleam beneath the lights. Artificial hills and flowing streams wound through the grounds, while twisting covered walkways turned this otherwise grim and terrifying skull island into something resembling the capital of an ancient kingdom.

The highest pavilion had no walls and stood open on all sides, offering a view over all of Onigashima and even distant Wano Country.

Kaido sat cross-legged in the middle of the pavilion, holding an enormous sake jug over two meters tall, one that an ordinary person would need both arms to embrace.

He tilted back his head, and liquor poured into his gaping mouth like a waterfall. His throat bobbed, producing deep gulping sounds.

In one corner of the pavilion, five or six equally burly, wild-looking men stood with their hands at their sides, scarcely daring to breathe.

These vicious men, whose names struck terror into countless people throughout the New World, now hung their heads like children who had done something wrong, their eyes shifting uneasily.

The atmosphere grew heavier and heavier. The air seemed frozen, and every breath carried a crushing oppression.

Suddenly, Kaido stopped drinking. The massive sake jug hung in midair as drops of liquor fell from its mouth, splashing into dark flowers across the wooden floor.
