Background / History
Eastern Lord Duke's Celestial Court
Eastern Lord Duke governed the three immortal islands for dozens of kalpas before announcing his intention to establish the Celestial Court. He envisioned it as a power capable of competing with Emperor Jun and invited prominent cultivators to witness its founding ceremony 82.
At its establishment, Eastern Lord Duke activated the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation, revealing hidden Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals among its ranks. The court received acknowledgment from the Heavenly Dao, but Dijiang and the Wu Tribe immediately contested its right to exist. The court survived only after the Three Purities and other great powers intervened, citing its recognition by the Sage 84 88.
The court's Sage-backed reputation attracted Zixiao Palace listeners and other cultivators. Eastern Lord Duke subsequently abandoned the voluntary recruitment model of his earlier Zifu Continent and began aggressively annexing lesser factions, protected beings, and great powers 92.
His expansion brought the court into conflict with Kunpeng Daoist and the emerging Demon Race. After confronting Emperor Jun at the Sun Star, the Celestial Court was forced to withdraw and spent an entire Eon recuperating from its losses 97 100 101.
Wars with the Wu Tribe and Demon Race
The Celestial Court remained one of the three principal powers of the Primordial Continent alongside the Wu Tribe and the yet-unified Demon Race, though Emperor Jun's strength placed his side decisively above the others 101.
Its prolonged war with the Wu Tribe became increasingly destructive. The Wu Tribe's coordinated witchcraft caught the court's forces unprepared, while the Twelve Ancestral Witches restrained Eastern Lord Duke and the court's upper echelon 252. The court also recruited large numbers of Demon Race deserters by promising resources and escape from the Demon Race's conflicts 147.
Eastern Lord Duke later sought permission from Sage Taiqing to slaughter Humans and forge the Lich Slaying Sword from their flesh, blood, and souls, believing it could pierce the Wu Tribe's bodies 375. Emperor Jun ultimately took control of the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation, crippled its occupants without killing them, reclaimed the Lich Slaying Sword, and returned it to the Human Race. Eastern Lord Duke then sealed Penglai Immortal Island to recover 381.
The court continued to oppose the Wu Tribe, including agreeing to a decisive battle at Mount Buzhou after Taiqing urged Eastern Lord Duke to accept the challenge 429. Its eventual complete destruction is confirmed when Great Emperor Fengdu later distinguishes the old court from Haotian's proposed successor 522.
Re-establishment
After the destruction of Eastern Lord Duke's court, Dao Ancestor Hongjun convened the Sages to consider creating a new Celestial Court to govern the Primordial Continent and reduce its conflicts. The proposed institution was linked to the interests of the Heavenly Realm, Underworld, Devil World, and the Primordial Continent 488 489.
The Sages disputed both the court's creation and the identity of its Celestial Emperor. Demon Emperor Jun oversaw an assessment in which candidates governed separate Mind Realm versions of the Celestial Court; these trial courts were simulations rather than the historical court itself 500 502.
Haotian was ultimately declared Celestial Emperor, with Yaochi agreeing to assist him. They prepared to establish the new Celestial Court from Penglai Immortal Island and issued invitations to major factions and Sages 518 522.

Organization & Assets
Ten Thousand Immortals Formation
The Ten Thousand Immortals Formation was the Celestial Court's defining military formation.
