Christie gently pushed open the bright red door. Before her was a fairly small room. It looked like a bedroom, and she could see a wardrobe, an armchair, a table and chairs, and a bed.
The room also rocked from time to time, as though the building it belonged to had not been built on solid ground.
Inside, a young man in formal attire crouched on the floor with his back to Christie, carving something with a dagger.
A moment later, Christie saw that a six-pointed star had been carved into the floor.
Next, the young man marked out the ritual diagram and carved twelve symbols representing natural elements such as earth, fire, water, and wind into it.
Finally, three candles were lit and placed on the floor.
Once everything was ready, the young man stood up in the center of the six-pointed star, raised his hands one after the other, and chanted an incantation.
"Eye That Sees All."
"God who looks down upon all things."
"You are the master of knowledge. You mock fate and toy with time."
"You are the witness of truth, the uncrowned king above the starry sky!"
The room was quiet, but its atmosphere had changed. Christie saw the ceiling suddenly turn illusory.
Above it lay an illusory world of wind and light. In its depths was endless darkness, dotted with twinkling stars.
Christie looked toward one of the brighter stars and suddenly realized that it was not a star at all, but an eye!
Just then, a pair of hands reached down from that illusory world of light and shadow. Covered in strange patterns and symbols, they held a thick, faintly glowing tome that did not seem entirely real.
