The First Employee

"Salary? For now, I can only offer a million a year. I need to see how the business runs first."

Zhang Yang left room for negotiation, but an annual salary of a million was far beyond what most people earned. Very few people in Gong City made that much.

"A million?"

Wu Haonan was genuinely stunned. His own company brought in less than ten million even in a good year, and he still owed the bank a substantial amount on this office building!

"My driver's downstairs right now. Want me to bring him up?"

Wu Haonan knew how important a driver and bodyguard could be, and he liked the young man. But for Zhang Yang's sake, he was willing to let him go, as long as Zhang Yang wanted him.

With that settled, Zhang Yang had no objection and agreed.

A short while after Wu Haonan made a call, a man of about twenty-seven or twenty-eight strode in. His steps were firm, and the outlines of well-defined muscles showed beneath his clothes.

"Boss."

The man walked straight into the reception room and addressed Wu Haonan, then glanced at Zhang Yang.

"Zhao, this is Mr. Zhang. He's just opened this company and needs to hire staff. Would you be interested? He's offering a higher salary than I am."

Wu Haonan sounded him out first. His question left Zhao Mingyu dumbfounded. He had no idea what his boss was getting at; he had never seen anything like this.

Talented employees were usually poached by headhunters. Their own bosses didn't introduce them to someone else and tempt them with a higher salary.

Is this a test?

Zhao Mingyu, Wu Haonan's driver and bodyguard, was bewildered. Once that possibility occurred to him, he answered firmly and without hesitation.

"Boss, I'm your driver and bodyguard.
