When neither side knew the other, the résumé was the natural place to start.

Zhang Yang disliked handing applicants a blank form to fill out. People did not always remember every detail of their résumés on the spot, and he did not care what their handwriting looked like.

More importantly, it saved time. Every job seeker came prepared with a résumé.

"Boss, here's my résumé."

The young man offered it with both hands, and Zhang Yang took it.

He looked barely twenty, but his résumé surprised Zhang Yang. It was impressive and met his hiring requirements.

The young man's surname was Qiao, and under "Father," he had written Qiao Xiaofeng.

Zhang Yang knew Qiao Xiaofeng and was familiar with Lin Cheng, who had referred business to him. Yet this young man had called in no favors. He had simply come for an interview.

That made Zhang Yang see him in a new light.

According to the résumé, Qiao Qixi had worked as a mercenary overseas and as a criminal investigator. It also stated plainly that he had been dismissed from the force.

"Uh... Qixi, is this age right?"

Looking between the age and experience on the résumé, Zhang Yang found it hard to believe someone so young had done so much.

"Twenty-four, boss. That's my real age. I went out into the world at sixteen. Spent a few years overseas, officially studying abroad. After I came back, I joined the criminal investigation unit, but I was dismissed a few years later for a disciplinary violation."

Qiao Qixi seemed honest enough. He told Zhang Yang the truth without holding back.

"Why?"

Criminal investigation was dangerous, but it was still a good job. Plenty of people wanted in and never got the chance.

"I took a few thousand yuan off a suspect."
