The Gundam Takes the Field

Deidara was about to charge out as he spoke.

"Hold on. I'm not finished." Sasori's icy voice stopped him. "Your theory has some merit, but you're jumping to conclusions."

He turned to face Deidara. "Biotechnology isn't my specialty, but as far as I know, Orochimaru has gone further than anyone else in the Shinobi World when it comes to biological modification and genetic engineering."

"Creating beasts of this size and refining living organisms this quickly would require resources, knowledge, and experimental groundwork beyond any one person—or even a single shinobi village."

Sasori's electronic eyes narrowed slightly, as if imitating a thoughtful expression. "Unfortunately, the first monster's brain tissue rapidly died and broke down after its death. It was clearly some sort of preprogrammed security measure."

"And you destroyed the second one from the inside with C4. Otherwise, I might have used neural interfacing to connect with the fragments of information left in its brain and find out who made and remotely controlled such terrifying biological weapons."

Deidara forced down his anger. "So what do we do now? Just sit around waiting for them to send a third and fourth one? Yeah!"

Sasori fell silent for a moment, apparently calculating the possibilities. At last, he answered in his usual even voice:

"The attackers chose this method and showed they could improve their creations. They won't stop now."

"They'll attack again, probably with something stronger—or one designed specifically to counter us."

"Next time," Sasori said, raising a metal arm as dim blue Chakra light flickered at his fingertips, "I'm coming with you."

"We need to capture one relatively intact, with its brain still active. Give me a living brain, and I can uncover whoever's controlling them."

"Whether it's Kumogakure, Orochimaru, or some other force we don't know about yet."
