"W-W-Witch of the Evernight?"
At Itila's words—"The night will forgive your rudeness"—Bai Xuan felt dazed for a moment.
The Witch of the Evernight before him looked so much like Isia, yet her chest was completely flat—
Just what was their relationship?
Sisters?
Or—
"What is it?"
Itila set down her teacup and slowly raised her eyes. Her dark-gold gaze held Bai Xuan's as she asked calmly, "Are you afraid of me?"
"Not afraid—just a little nervous."
Bai Xuan cleared his throat as he answered.
But that wasn't what he truly felt.
Of course he was afraid. The Witch of the Evernight, who had destroyed the world single-handedly, was sitting right in front of him. Who wouldn't be scared?
Still, he wasn't so terrified that he lost control.
He knew this was only a trial inside the Witch Bubble, not the real Witch of the Evernight.
But he and Xilin had touched the bubble together. Why was he alone now?
Where had Xilin gone?
"Nervous?"
A knowing smile touched Itila's lips. "Most people are, when they meet me. You're already among the calmest."
"Am I?"
Bai Xuan smiled, shrugged, and took another sip of black tea.
Ugh!
So bitter!
Bitter enough to make his throat itch!
"Not to your taste?"
Itila had noticed his expression change. A hint of concern entered her voice.
"No. I don't care much for bitter things," Bai Xuan admitted with a nod.
Life had given him more than enough bitterness. He didn't want another dose.
"I see~"
Itila lifted a slender finger tipped with black polish and pointed at Bai Xuan's teacup.
A crystalline glimmer drifted down and dissolved into the tea.
"Try it again," she said.
"All right."
Bai Xuan immediately raised the cup and took a sip.
"It's sweet now—?"
He froze in surprise.
