History

Lin Mo declines Shanks’s invitation to join the Red Hair Pirates and leaves Foosha Village alone. At Shimotsuki Village, he begins developing his swordsmanship through system check-ins. He defeats Kuina at Isshin Dojo, gives Zoro advice on technique and observation, and refuses both Koshiro’s offer of instruction and Dragon’s invitation to the Revolutionary Army 2 3 4 6.

He continues traveling rather than joining an institution, later refusing Garp’s offer to enter the Marines. Although reluctant to take on students, he teaches Sanji how conditioning and precise strikes can improve his kicking techniques. His journey eventually brings him into conflict with opponents including Enel, Mihawk, Magellan, Shiryu, and Sengoku 18 19 73 139 271.

Despite his early insistence on traveling alone, Lin Mo forms a crew. At Marineford, he intervenes to keep Ace from attacking Akainu, moves to protect his crew when Enel is threatened, and refuses Sengoku’s offer of safe withdrawal 487. By the time he meets his parallel-world counterpart Lu Qi, he names six permanent crew members and three temporary ones 640.

In Cangxuan Continent, Lin Mo’s combat abilities are largely locked. His mission is to help Lin Feng reach the Immortal Emperor realm. He accompanies Lin Feng as a study attendant, protects him from attacks, and seeks help from Orochimaru, Mihawk, and Lu Qi when his own restricted abilities are insufficient. He later agrees to Lu Qi’s five-year plan for Lin Feng and trains in teleportation talismans 595 609 620 629 638 655.

Appearance

Lin Mo is young-looking and shorter than companions who tease him about his height. He commonly carries a wooden sword; in Cangxuan Continent, he sometimes wears a mask to conceal his identity 139 618.

• His characteristic weapon, Toyako, looks like an ordinary wooden sword and has its name carved into the hilt 2.
• He wears a silver-gray half-mask for Gold City’s open tournament 522 523.
• When using the Preta Path, his black eyes turn red and the character for “two” appears in each iris 534.

Personality

Lin Mo is reserved, blunt, and protective of his freedom. He gives little explanation for his abilities or plans and turns down offers from Shanks, Dragon, Garp, and others who want him to join or follow them. He prefers practical results to reputation or the conventions of a fair duel 2 6 18 139.

His detachment does not extend to abandoning people he cares about. He gives Zoro and Sanji useful instruction, takes risks to protect Lin Feng, and becomes openly concerned for Kaku’s safety after their separation. He calls Kaku family and later insists on supervising Ace’s pursuit of Blackbeard because Ace’s safety is his responsibility as captain 4 19 626 651 657.
