The serious Officer Jenny quickly saluted, then opened the car door and got in with Nurse Joy. The only odd thing was the look she gave Dian before getting in, which left him uneasy, as though he had done something wrong. The problem was, he hadn't even said a word.

The Police Car shuddered to life. Officer Jenny gave another salute, then quickly drove away.

"Dian, sorry, but I still have my paper to work on, so Gloom will have to take you out for special training again today."

Azisa sounded apologetic.

"No, I'm the one taking up your time."

Dian immediately waved his hand. "I'll have Quagsire help you look after the flowers again today."

He glanced at Quagsire and Slowpoke beside him, staring at each other as they played a game of telepathic telephone, and thought they really were suited to a life together.

Slowpoke was a good Pokémon, but raising one to the point of evolution was far from easy.

Even setting aside the much rarer Slowking, obtaining a Slowbro wasn't easy either.

Of course, if all he wanted was to evolve Slowpoke rather than raise it as a core member of his team, that wouldn't be a problem.

He could simply catch a Shellder and have it bite Slowpoke's tail. A Slowbro evolved that way would have decent fighting strength, but it would fall far short of one evolved from a Slowpoke that had attained inner realization—in other words, enlightenment through spiritual practice.
