My Deep Love for the Beach

"Chinami, don't tell me you really got..."

Dian blinked. Had Officer Jenny, who slacked off from time to time, finally been demoted and shipped off to the Hoenn Region?

"Dian, you know me so well! That's right, Great Detective Officer Jenny Chinami has finally arrived in a new region! Hmph! Criminals around here had better prepare to face me!"

Imitating the lead actor in a detective drama she'd been watching lately, Chinami flicked the brim of her police cap, looking thoroughly pleased with herself.

As the two chatted as though no one else were there, the Wailmer beside them actually began to cry. "Wail!"

It tried its hardest to squeeze out of the sandy pit, but it couldn't budge. Tears as big as beans welled up in its tiny eyes.

Dian gestured to Chinami that they would talk later.

He walked over and felt the Wailmer's skin. It was quite damp, which meant a Trainer must have sprayed it with water earlier. Normally, that would have been the right thing to do. After absorbing the water, Wailmer would recover its strength and Bounce back into the sea on its own.

But for this Wailmer, that had only made things worse. While it was having fun, it had accidentally used Fissure, opening a huge pit in the sand beneath it. When it fell, it got wedged inside.

Absorbing water had made its body swell even more, leaving it stuck fast.

"Wail!"

The Wailmer looked at Dian through its tears, two enormous drops hanging from its tiny eyes.

"Good news, Wailmer."

Dian patted its blue skin with a smile.

"Wail?!"

The Wailmer brightened at once. It stopped crying and gazed at him eagerly.

"You can stay on this beautiful beach forever. For the rest of your life."

Dian rubbed his chin and
