On a hillside near Scented City, the interwoven branches and leaves of orange-red trees bathed the entire slope in the lingering glow of sunset, gentle and serene.
Beneath a tree, a black-haired young man was grooming a Fennekin. Beside him lay a red-haired girl in a white dress. They were Dian and Ai'er.
A breeze stirred, carrying a refreshing fragrance as orange-red leaves slowly drifted to the ground.
"Comfortable?"
Dian stroked the Fennekin in his arms. Surprisingly, this Fennekin wasn't particularly shy around strangers.
An Eevee wearing an Everstone nestled beside him, and an orange-red leaf landed squarely on its head.
"Vee?"
Eevee twitched its ears, then ignored the falling leaves and continued soaking up Scented City's unique atmosphere.
"Where am I?"
Ai'er slowly awoke. Rubbing her forehead, she looked momentarily bewildered.
"Fenn."
The instant Fennekin saw its Trainer wake up, it pounced on her and happily licked her cheeks.
"Fennekin!"
Ai'er hugged it tightly. "Thank goodness! I never imagined you'd come with me to... to..."
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the black-haired young man beside her.
"Mr. William, I never thought you'd refuse to leave me alone even in the Spirit World..."
Ai'er spoke sorrowfully.
"Sorry."
Dian gave an apologetic smile. "Everything that happened earlier was just..."
He pointed toward the town below the hill. "As an apology, I had the Ghost-type Pokémon bring you straight to the outskirts of Scented City."
"Just kidding."
Ai'er smiled brightly.
Rustle, rustle.
Just then, the young lady Misdreavus burst out of the nearby grass carrying a pile of Berries. Behind her followed a brown, rabbitlike Pokémon with long ears, Bunnelby, and a yellow, lizardlike Pokémon, Helioptile.
"Bun!"
Bunnelby paid no attention whatsoever to the two humans before it, staring longingly at the Berries in Misdreavus's arms instead.
"Heli."
