Today, Dian finally learned just how powerful a Pokémon with a legendary reputation could be.
He had merely met the eyes of this Volcarona, known as the "Child of the Sun," through his specially made goggles, and sweat had drenched his entire body, leaving him feeling drained. Had he not immediately looked away, he felt he might have been burned.
It brought a saying to Dian's mind.
"Mortals must not gaze upon gods"!
Yet the Volcarona in his memory had been chased down and cornered by an ordinary Pokémon... apparently, memories were not always entirely accurate.
"Beedrill, use Agility, then Swords Dance and Pin Missile! Don't use any other moves!"
"Snivy, attack from a distance with Aqua Tail! Watch out and dodge!"
"Eevee, Shadow Ball!"
Dian did not expect their attacks to inflict much damage. In fact, he did not even dare have Beedrill use Giga Drain. A being of this caliber might have violent Fire-type energy coursing through its very life force, making it impossible to absorb and potentially harming the user instead.
The same applied to Misdreavus's Pain Split.
And Beedrill's two greatest strengths, physical prowess and toxicity, were completely countered by this Volcarona.
Dian watched Volcarona create a sea of fire with a light flutter of its wings.
The ferocious flames burned away the Pin Missiles, evaporated the swirling columns of water, and swallowed the Shadow Balls whole!
"Everyone! Its ability is Flame Body! Be careful—it hasn't used a move. This is just its ability!!"
Dian's eyelid twitched at the sight. This Volcarona did not seem fully awake yet. It had created this infernal sea of fire purely through instinctive use of its ability.
"Mis?"
Misdreavus looked at him inquiringly.
"Wait a little longer."
Dian shook his head. Why had he brought
