Zeus's face darkened. "You—"
"Hand over your divine office first, along with your artifacts," Wonder Woman interrupted him. "We need more preparations to fight Darkseid."
"From now on, you are the King of the Gods of Olympus. My other artifacts are all on the mountain. They were blasted away just now." Zeus handed Wonder Woman a scepter formed from lightning. "I hope you can defeat Darkseid... though that hope is slim indeed."
"You don't need to worry about that. Now leave my Mount Olympus," Wonder Woman said.
"Well, so everyone can forget the past and begin new lives, we gods shall return humanity's fate to humanity. Destroy Olympus after we leave," Zeus said. Then he glanced at the vanished temple. "...Never mind. Forget I said anything."
"I'm leaving too. I hope Darkseid doesn't kill you." Hera placed the Lily Crown on Wonder Woman's head and walked with Zeus to the edge of Mount Olympus, where a distinctly mechanical control console stood.
Zeus pressed a button on it. An elevator flew up from somewhere, and the couple stepped inside and descended.
"Why do I get the feeling they've wanted to run away for ages?"
"Well, Father's original plan was to threaten to strip you of your divine office on the grounds that you'd seized it. Then we would come out and plead for you, giving you the chance to complete his trial and rescue Heracles from beneath Themyscira... ultimately becoming the gods' successor." Apollo revealed Zeus's original plan. "He didn't expect you to bring people here and attack outright..."
