Inside General Zod's ship.
"It seems human technology isn't as simple as it looks. They've already blocked the message I sent." General Zod was somewhat surprised.
"General, does this mean the humans won't hand over Kal-El?" an armored Kryptonian Warrior asked.
"Perhaps. But if they don't, I'll keep killing until they do." General Zod had been infamous on Krypton for his brutality, and he thought even less of the people of Earth.
How could such a backward planet be anything but his for the taking?
"General, someone is here—the emblem on his chest belongs to the House of El. I believe he must be Kal-El."
Outside the ship, Superman stood at the hatch and knocked.
"He's Jor-El's son?" General Zod sounded surprised. "He looks nothing like him..."
"If you won't open up, I'll let myself in." Superman pulled the hatch open and flew into General Zod's ship. "Zod, I hear you're looking for me?"
"My nephew, after all these years, I've finally found you," General Zod said with a sigh. "You have no idea how many years we've spent searching for you."
"How touching," Superman said flatly. "If only you hadn't used this method to draw me out."
"Kal-El, there's no need to be hostile toward me. I'm not your enemy. I'm one of your own," General Zod said. "Jor-El may not have told you, but you bear a mission more important than you can imagine—and I've come to help you fulfill it."
"Dru-Zod, just get to the point." Superman addressed General Zod by his full name. "You're here for the Codex of Life, aren't you?"
The Codex of Life contained the genes of every Kryptonian. Whoever controlled it could clone an entirely new Kryptonian civilization.
Before Superman left Krypton, his biological father, Jor-El, had placed the Codex of Life
