"...Fair point." Aquaman's face twitched.

"Let's get back to work. Just leave this world's Aquaman here to cool off," Roland said.

"This job of yours isn't exactly easy..." Mera looked at the water in the Gotham River, unsure where to begin.

"Otherwise, I wouldn't have needed to ask you two to come," Roland said. "This isn't ordinary water, after all."

"...This isn't water at all." Mera jumped off Three Gates Bridge and stood on the Gotham River, the current trembling slightly beneath her feet.

In some ways, Mera's abilities resembled true magic. She could control the shape and density of water, but manipulating the Gotham River wasn't nearly as easy as it was elsewhere.

It took about ten minutes before Mera managed to condense a thin column of water beneath her feet.

At the bottom of the column was a tiny clump of matter emitting a multicolored glow.

"Wh-what is this stuff?" Mera stared at the clump, her scalp prickling.

"Joker Gas, fear toxin, water from the Lazarus Pit, the green's body, and magic... Who knows?" Roland spread his hands. "Most likely, all of the above."

"Gothamites actually drink this stuff?"

"Yeah. I installed a water purifier at the Church, but it doesn't seem to do much," Roland said. "We make do with it—

"It's not too bad."

"Gothamites really are... resilient," Mera marveled.

Roland shrugged. "That they are."

After another half hour or so, the water around Mera gradually condensed into a platform, with shadows of every color swimming beneath it. It looked downright eerie.

"This is getting pretty conspicuous." Aquaman glanced at the bridge. Cars passed from time to time, but none of them paid any attention to the strange activity in the Gotham River. "Weird. Does the true magic here hide things from ordinary people, too?"
