"Her condition was indeed somewhat serious." After speaking with Katrina, Gilda said to Selina, "But among all the patients Roland has sent me, she has the mildest symptoms."
Roland spread his hands. "I only know one and a half psychologists. The half one still hasn't gotten out of Arkham Asylum."
"Poor Quinzel," Gilda sighed.
"Back to the point. What exactly is her situation?" Batman asked.
"Adrian Wells, a clinical psychologist at the University of Manchester, proposed that the core motivations behind self-destructive tendencies usually fall into three categories: fear of losing control, testing relationships, and punishing oneself." Gilda said, "Katrina doesn't have a partner, and she also hasn't internalized a harsh superego that causes intense shame over even minor mistakes, so neither of the latter two applies."
"Did you understand that?" Roland looked at Batman.
"Of course." Batman nodded. "So Katrina became this way because she remained helpless for a long time?"
"Yes. Perhaps she was neglected during childhood, or perhaps she suffered a major setback as an adult." Gilda guessed. "But I haven't gotten that out of her yet."
"I know. Both happened." Selina said, "Like me, Katrina is Falcone's illegitimate daughter. Later, Mario coerced her into working for him, so—"
"I see." Gilda thought for a moment. "Then the focus now is rebuilding her relationship with herself. That will require your assistance, since you're the person she trusts."
"All right. What should I do?" Selina asked.
"I'll explain it to you slowly—" Gilda took paper and a pen from the drawer and prepared to explain the treatment plan to Selina.
"Then we'll head out first." Roland stood up. "Leave the person who shot Katrina to us."
"All right." Selina nodded. "Thank you."
"We're all friends. No need to be polite." Roland walked out, with Batman following behind him.
