In the dim cavern, the two squads quickly settled on a battle plan.
They had yet to build complete rapport, and mixing their members would only invite confusion. They decided to advance separately.
"Smart!"
After sharing the terrain reports his scouts had gathered, Lü Qing snapped his fingers. "The cavern curves around in a ring. Our squads can take the passages on either side and close in like a pair of pincers, wiping out the whole nest of rats in one sweep!
"We'll split the materials by headcount. As for the spoils from the Rat General, we'll bid for them. Highest bidder wins. How does that sound?"
"Fair enough." Wang Qingli nodded.
"But..."
Lü Qing's tone shifted. Battle fervor burned in his eyes as he looked over Wang Qingli's squad. "Just killing them would be too dull. How about we raise the stakes? Let's see which squad clears its side faster and kills more! The losers clean the entire battlefield, then treat everyone to the most expensive Hundred-Flower Brew when we get back!"
"A wager?"
Wang Qingli did not agree at once. She turned to look at her teammates.
Zhang Shan was already itching for a fight. Zhao Gang looked just as unwilling to lose. Even Chu Bai, usually so reserved, had a glint of eagerness in his eyes.
Seeing that her team was ready, Wang Qingli smiled faintly. A touch of boldness entered her cool voice. "Deal! Senior Brother Lü, that round of drinks is on you!"
"Hahaha! We'll see about that!"
With the wager struck, the mood turned urgent and heated.
The two squads wasted no more words. They split apart and plunged like sharpened blades into the deep passages on either side of the cavern.
