"Awake?"
A voice called Chen Feng back to reality.
Chen Feng opened his eyes and rolled his neck. Regaining control of his body felt as blissful as breaking the surface after drowning and taking that first breath of air.
"I'm fucking back."
Joy spread across Chen Feng's face. By summoning the Water Ghost, he had successfully killed himself, triggered the Save-Load System, and escaped a hopeless situation.
"You, clothes, off, now!"
"You lot, help him."
At the Pig-Headed Man's bellow, several trainees in camouflage swarmed forward, ready to strip Chen Feng.
This again?
Chen Feng remembered his first time here. These bastards had stripped him bare, leaving him naked like a monkey on display, with every shred of dignity gone.
But this time, he was no longer a lamb for the slaughter.
"Get lost!"
Chen Feng roared and shoved with both hands, sending the Imposter Trainees sprawling.
Just as before, all rewards obtained from the systems carried over. That included the Brick-Burst Level physique he had trained in his previous life.
That was how systems worked. Once earned, forever yours!
"Bastard!"
Enraged at the sight of his underlings being beaten, the Pig-Headed Man reached out a massive hand to grab Chen Feng.
Bring it on!
Chen Feng wanted to test his body's limits too—in a contest of pure strength, without electric shocks or other factors getting in the way!
He raised both arms to meet those pig hands, intending to shove the Pig-Headed Man back with brute force.
At the same time, the Pig-Headed Man heaved forward, trying to use his weight advantage to crush Chen Feng beneath him.
Bam!
Their four palms collided, and a dull impact thundered through the dark cell.
The shock numbed Chen Feng's arms, and the marble beneath his feet cracked.
The Pig-Headed Man froze for a moment too. His pig brain clearly couldn't comprehend how this scrawny human could match his strength head-on.
Afterward.
For breaking the rules and resisting an instructor, Chen Feng was sentenced to another seven days in solitary confinement.
Once the monster left, Chen Feng immediately called up his system:
[Save-Load Count: 2] [System Points: 9] [Available blessings: Lu Xun, Diaochan, Ma Chao] [Ghosts under your command: Three-star Water Ghost ★★★. Traits: Likes water, likes rain] [Available plans: Hero Training. Phase one complete. Spend 1 point to unlock the phase-two B-rank training plan?]
Chen Feng felt a surge of Joy. "Not only did I keep my trained physique, but the follow-up training plan is still here too?"
"Good, good, good. Once I get out of here and find somewhere safe, I'll hole up and train."
Next came another choice of one out of three boxes.
One was the exchange system from the science fiction category, KH-02-SBFS.
One was the Quest System from the cultivation category, XX-01-DKQD.
As for the new box, its code was ZT-03-LTQ. It said, "Everyone in the group is so talented, and they all know just what to say. I love it in there!"
The category, the initials, and what it said.
Chen Feng recognized it at a glance: a Chat Group System from the Myriad Heavens category.
A Chat Group linked characters from different worlds and walks of life through a group messaging tool, allowing them to interact across worlds.
In plain terms, it meant starting a group chat with big shots from other worlds.
It sounded pretty useless.
But for example, after activating the Chat Group, Chen Feng might be able to add a Great Golden Immortal from a Cultivation World as a friend and obtain cultivation methods, contact a mad scientist from a science fiction world and acquire futuristic technology, or exchange ideas with a wizard from a magical world and learn Magic.
"This system really does have incredible potential. Used well, it could be just as good as an exchange system, and it doesn't even need points."
"But now isn't the right time to activate it."
He needed something of his own to bring to the table.
Chen Feng had nothing at the moment. Even if he added a big shot, he had no resources worth offering in exchange.
And if he ended up in a villains' Chat Group, he would have to deal with their scheming too.
With that in mind, Chen Feng decided to activate the Quest System first and earn some points.
So he activated XX-01-DKQD.
"You're from an Immortal World, right?"
"Come on, give me a few demon-slaying missions!"
[Ding! Congratulations on activating the Check-In System!]
"Daily Check-in?"
Chen Feng froze for a moment, then immediately saluted. "My apologies, sir. I didn't recognize you."
If the world's most idiot-proof systems were ranked, and the Daily Check-in System took second place, no other system would dare claim first.
Its function was simple: as long as the system's owner "checked in" at a specific time or place, much like clocking in for work, they would receive generous rewards.
Chen Feng quickly scanned it. Based on his experiences, three check-in locations had been unlocked so far:
Zero-star check-in location: Cihang Bridge. Zero-star check-in location: Happiness Internet Cafe. Four-star check-in location: Fourth Mental Hospital.
After examining the details, Chen Feng found that the more dangerous a check-in location was, the higher its difficulty rating, and the more System Points it rewarded.
Cihang Bridge and the Happiness Internet Cafe had originally been three-star and four-star check-in locations, respectively. But because the monsters there had already been eliminated or subdued, they had been downgraded to zero stars.
As for the Fourth Mental Hospital.
"Why only four stars?"
"Is it because that so-called Director Niu isn't here?"
Whatever. Let's try checking in first.
Chen Feng silently said, Check in.
[Ding! Congratulations on successfully signing in at Fourth Mental Hospital—Professor's Office and Fourth Mental Hospital—Instructor Guard Room. Sign in at two more locations to complete your check-in.]
Huh?
What do you mean, two more locations?
At a thought from Chen Feng, a map of the Fourth Mental Hospital appeared before him.
The section covering the Internet Addiction Academy was perfectly clear, laid out at a glance.
But the sanatorium section was shrouded in fog and difficult to make out. Two unexplored locations were marked on it: the Basement and the Nurses' Station.
He had originally planned to make a run for it.
But now, it looked like he would have to visit the sanatorium.
Chen Feng crushed the lock with one hand and pushed open the door of the dark cell.
It was noon, and the sunlight was painfully bright. Shading his eyes with a hand, Chen Feng gazed into the distance.
Beyond the wire fence stood an all-white, three-story building. Every window was covered with wire mesh to prevent escapes. If not for the sign on the roof that read "Sanatorium," he would have mistaken it for a concrete prison.
"Looks dangerous. I know nothing about the sanatorium or the Rabbit Nurse's abilities. If I force my way in, I'll probably end up just like last time."
"I need to find a way to get in with a legitimate excuse."
After a little thought, Chen Feng soon remembered the notes left behind by the senior student who had killed herself.
In an emergency, he could feign insanity to get inside.
Pretending to be insane could keep the monsters from attacking him and even get them to look after him as a patient. It sounded unbelievable.
But after observing them all this time, Chen Feng had discovered that the hospital's monsters followed certain rules in both their movements and their attacks.
For instance, in the Internet Addiction Academy, anyone who avoided breaking the ten bad-kid rules would never be attacked by monsters.
Feigning insanity, then, was the rule for surviving in the sanatorium.
Once he understood all this, Chen Feng stripped off his outer clothes and pants, leaving only his underwear, then sprinted toward the mental hospital, shouting as he ran:
"I'm crazy! I am, I'm crazy!"
