Background / History

Wei Wuji guarded Qingzhou for decades as its Grand General, overseeing the Demon Slayers and resisting the province's demon threats. His most enduring opponent was the Cangyuan Dragon Lord, a flood dragon with True Dragon bloodline whose attempted ascension Wei repeatedly obstructed from the banks of the Cangyuan River. Wei's position was unequivocal: as long as he remained, the demon would not become a dragon 134.

As commander, Wei Wuji was selective about accepting personal disciples. He considered Qingzhou's demon-slaying duty inseparable from discipleship: his disciples would receive the province's best resources, but would also be expected to command camps, hunt Great Demons, and protect Qingzhou's commanderies 110. After assessing Qin Zheng's fragmented cultivation foundation and exceptional physical strengths, he accepted him as his sixth personal disciple and supplied martial arts tailored to his potential 110.

During the Cangyuan Dragon Lord crisis, Wei fought the dragon directly and exhausted substantial Qi maintaining a colossal body formed from condensed energy. Qin Zheng's arrival reversed the battle; Wei witnessed his new disciple interrupt the dragon's advancement, slay the Four-Armed Ape King, and ultimately behead the Dragon Lord that had troubled Qingzhou for decades 140 142 143.

The Governor's Mansion later captured Wei Wuji and subjected him to deliberate humiliation. Qin Zheng found him chained in a courtyard with swill set before him; more seriously, his essence, energy, and spirit had been scattered, crippling his martial arts 158. Qin Zheng rescued him and eliminated Gao Wenyu, while Wei's disciples and allies escorted him to safety 158 161.

Despite his injuries, Wei refused Wei Wushuang's demand that he return to the Capital, choosing instead to remain in Linyuan City with his disciples 164. He transferred to Qin Zheng the rare opportunity to observe the Enlightenment Divine Stele—an opportunity Wei had accumulated through decades of service—so that Qin could strengthen his cultivation 164.

When the Blackwater Demon Dragon attacked Qingzhou, Wei again fought despite being badly weakened and was nearly killed. Qin Zheng intervened, defeated the dragon, and saved him; the near-death battle nevertheless brought Wei close to the limit of the “Essence” stage 175 176 184. Qin later intended to use the Jade Lion Demon's Demon Core to help Wei reach the Martial Saint realm, and, much later, personally guided him to the Dharma Body realm 237 589.

He is steadfast to the point of self-sacrifice. Even when gravely injured by the Blackwater Demon Dragon, he chose to fight until death rather than allow the demon to advance into Qingzhou 176. His concern for his disciples is equally pronounced: he immediately worried for Qin Zheng's survival during the conflict with the Governor's Mansion and regarded the possible loss of disciples as a grievous loss to both himself and Qingzhou 134.

Wei also bears guilt over his past and his perceived failures.
