"Kushina."

By then, Tsunade had walked over to Kushina Uzumaki and Uchiha Yin. She called Kushina's name with a teasing smile.

"Ah, Tsunade! When did you get here?"

Kushina Uzumaki jumped and gave Tsunade a flustered look.

"Just now. I'm hurt you didn't notice me, Kushina."

Tsunade's teasing made Kushina Uzumaki blush bright red.

"Tsunade!" Kushina Uzumaki protested, her voice turning playful.

"All right, all right. I'll stop teasing you."

Tsunade let her smile fade and turned to Uchiha Yin with a serious expression.

Uchiha Yin immediately felt the pressure.

Tsunade hadn't released any killing intent. Her stern expression alone was enough to make him nervous.

She isn't going to give me trouble over what happened earlier, is she? That doesn't seem like her... does it? Uchiha Yin couldn't be sure.

"Uchiha Yin, I want to take you as my apprentice. Will you accept?"

Chapter 29: I Accept

What? Tsunade wants to take me as her apprentice?

For a moment, Uchiha Yin was stunned.

As a member of the Uchiha Clan, he came from a family that was bitterly at odds with the Senju Clan.

And Tsunade was the Konoha Princess. Surely that made the chances of her taking him as an apprentice even slimmer.

So why does she want to take me on?

Uchiha Yin's thoughts raced.

Could it be... Kushina?!

He glanced at Kushina beside him. Her eyes were wide, and she looked as though she was silently urging him to accept. He began to understand.

Hiruzen Sarutobi must have seen what happened between Kushina and me yesterday.

This must be the measure Hiruzen Sarutobi came up with to keep the future Nine-Tails Jinchuriki under his control.

That has to be it. Maybe Jiraiya's interest in Minato Namikaze in the original story had something to do with Minato's relationship with Kushina Uzumaki, too.

Uchiha Yin wasn't trying to think the worst of Hiruzen Sarutobi. He genuinely believed Hiruzen was capable of doing something like this.

Hiruzen Sarutobi put Konoha above everything else. How could he let Kushina Uzumaki slip out of his control?

This time, though, Hiruzen Sarutobi had nothing to do with it. Tsunade had made the decision herself.

Of course, if Tsunade hadn't proposed it, Hiruzen Sarutobi would probably have found some other way.

Having asked the question, Tsunade was every bit as nervous as Uchiha Yin.
