In the livestream, a blurry figure could just be made out flashing past high overhead.
Whoosh! Homelander suddenly appeared in front of the camera.
He had a young woman tucked under each of his muscular arms. Both were pale with fright, and several black streaks marked his face.
Perhaps the effort had drained him in that short span of time. Even someone as powerful as Homelander was visibly breathing hard.
Homelander beckoned into the distance. Several rescue workers hurried over with stretchers, and he laid the two Girl down before wiping at the soot on his face.
He would have been better off leaving it alone. His hand smeared the black streaks across his face, leaving him looking like a clown.
But neither the reporters who had rushed to the scene nor the viewers watching the livestream found it funny.
A photographer nearby captured the exact moment Homelander wiped his face. Within a single day, that photo would raise his approval rating by fifteen percentage points.

Homelander had appeared right in front of the live camera, and a reporter seized the chance to step forward with a microphone. "Homelander, can you tell us what's happening up there?"
"Hmm... It's bad. Around two to three hundred people are trapped inside the building and need rescuing." Homelander shook his head, his face full of anguish. "The fire is spreading fast. I can't reach everyone. All I can do is save as many people as possible."
At that, Homelander covered his face. For a moment, he was too choked up to go on.
Suddenly, another reporter rushed forward. "Mr. Homelander, we've heard that Vought International has been using Compound V to produce Espers in large numbers. Did you know about this?"
The reporter worked for another major news outlet
