Background
While working at Shaxian Snacks, Luke demanded that Homelander pay fifteen dollars for duck leg rice. He refused to apologize even when the owner threatened his job. Homelander’s laser eyes burned Luke’s shirt but did not injure him; Luke then punched Homelander to one knee, took his watch as collateral, and quit. Luke’s immediate priority afterward was reaching a supermarket sale 1 2 3 4.
Luke had begun a daily workout roughly eighteen months before he became completely bald. After learning that Homelander was regarded as the world’s strongest superhero, Luke realized how powerful he had become. He entered Vought’s competition for a place in The Seven, earned a perfect physical-test score, and failed the interview. Starlight received the position instead 6 8 9 10.
Following the competition, Vought sent Kelp Man and Earth Dragon to capture Luke. He overcame both, then joined the Blizzard Group when Mitarai Fubuki invited him to help investigate Vought’s attacks on contestants. Serizawa Masao later joined them 15 16 25 30.
Luke rescued Starlight from Deep Sea King, destroying the creature with one punch. His connection to Starlight and Fubuki subsequently drew Homelander’s scrutiny. When Fubuki invited Luke to stay at her family home because Homelander might pursue him, Luke met her older sister Tatsumaki and walked through her psychic resistance and barrier unharmed 23 44 48.
While investigating a secret Vought facility with Fubuki and Starlight, Luke encountered Adam, a young test subject able to manipulate electromagnetic fields. Luke protected Lamplighter from Adam and followed the boy when he fled. After finding Adam with his spatially gifted sister Eve, Luke stopped Adam from unleashing an attack on a crowded street and proposed taking both siblings as disciples. He later brought them to the Mitarai estate, where he named the girl Tanghulu and the boy Brain Pop; the latter is also called Crash Boy 57 58 59 64 65 74 86.
Luke entered Vought’s Rising Star Tournament under the name Luther. His victories drew increasing attention, and a monk’s supernatural flames publicly burned away the blond wig he had worn to conceal his baldness. Homelander then connected the contestant to the man who had humiliated him. Luke ultimately defeated Greedy Wolf, Golden Flash, and the other contenders to win the tournament 162 189 200 201 238.
In the subsequent confrontation with Homelander, Luke survived the latter’s Monsterization and regenerative powers, then destroyed him completely with a Serious Punch. On his way to investigate another disturbance, Luke was intercepted by a further-evolved Greedy Wolf. Their battle reached a planet-threatening scale after Greedy Wolf acquired God’s Power, but Luke’s strength continued to grow beyond what Greedy Wolf could copy. Luke spared him after that power and his Monsterization were undone 244 245 253 255 256 257.
Luke later settled into a carefree life with Fubuki and Tatsumaki. One morning a year later, they woke to find him gone 257.
Appearance
Luke is a young man with an unimposing build. He loses his hair over the months following his first encounter with Homelander 2 6 8.
- Bald head: By the time of Vought’s selection event, his appearance has changed enough that Starlight does not recognize him from an earlier meeting 6 9.
- Hero costume: A budget outfit consisting of a white cape, yellow combat suit, red leather gloves, and red combat boots 7.
- Tournament disguise: Competes as Luther in a blond wig, which the monk’s Flame of Illusion burns away during a live broadcast 162 197 200 201.
Personality
Luke is blunt about rules he considers fair: he insists Homelander pay for his meal despite pressure from both Homelander and his employer. He is less interested in fame or status than in living as he chooses. When Starlight doubts the people she once admired, he tells her that he wants to be his own hero 2 3 9 19.
Money and food remain immediate concerns even after Luke discovers his strength. He seeks supermarket discounts, worries about unemployment, and guards the beef rolls at a group hot pot. He is strongly attracted to Fubuki, and his staring and poorly timed remarks repeatedly make their interactions awkward 4 14 25 30. Luke also feels increasingly lonely and emotionally detached, though he continues to exercise and follow the news to stay connected to the world 6 16 19.
Despite longing for an opponent who can challenge him, Luke repeatedly puts other people’s safety first. He stops Adam’s attack before it can harm a crowded street, redirects an enormous energy sphere away from tournament spectators, and finds that protecting the people he cares about matters more than fighting freely against Greedy Wolf. Rather than leave the powerful siblings without guidance, he takes them as disciples 65 164 256.
Luke is sensitive about his baldness. He wears a wig in the tournament and becomes furious when a monk exposes his head, though he restrains himself after the monk withdraws 200 201.
Abilities & Skills
Strength
Luke attributes his strength to a daily routine of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a ten-kilometer run. He insists this is training, not a superpower; those who hear the explanation find it difficult to believe 6 38 40.
- Punches Homelander hard enough to force him to one knee and break the floor beneath him 3.
- Destroys a reinforced punching machine during Vought’s physical test 8.
- Kills Deep Sea King with a punch through the air; the blow also drives floodwater away from the docks 23.
- Sends a punch through the House of Evolution’s underground base and up to the surface while demonstrating his strength to Carnage Kabuto 39.
- Kicks an enormous energy sphere away from a crowded tournament venue and into the sky 164.
- Uses the wind pressure from a punch to break a mental illusion and gouge a trench hundreds of meters long 199.
- Tears apart Monsterized Homelander with Consecutive Normal Punches, then destroys every cell of his regenerating body with a Serious Punch 244 245.
- Answers Greedy Wolf’s Nuclear Fission Fist with a Serious Punch. The redirected force causes a planet-wide seismic event, including an unprecedented magnitude 9.8 earthquake 255.
Speed and Movement
- Covers 8.7 kilometers to a supermarket in three minutes without becoming breathless 4.
- Completes a 1,500-meter race in 0.93 seconds, including a delayed start 9.
- Moves faster than Kelp Man can follow and intercepts Earth Dragon during an underground escape 15 16.
- Is shown suspended in midair while carrying Starlight and hovering after Carnage Kabuto’s assault 23 39.
- Escapes an energy blast that melts a crater into the tournament arena and continues the match while hovering 162 163.
- Keeps pace with Greedy Wolf after the latter gains cosmic power 256.
Durability and Resistance
- Homelander’s eye lasers burn through Luke’s clothes without piercing his chest; Starlight’s punch fails to move him 3 5.
- Earth Dragon’s claws leave his scalp unscratched, and Carnage Kabuto’s sustained attack causes no visible injury 16 39.
- Tatsumaki’s psychic force fails to harm him, and he passes through her barrier 48.
- Adam’s electromagnetic repulsion fails to move him; Eve’s attempt to displace space inside his body also leaves him unharmed 58 64.
- Endures Homeless Emperor’s concentrated God’s Power without injury and passes into his Holy Light Barrier without breaking it 235 236.
- Survives Monsterized Homelander’s enhanced beams and the molten rock deep underground 244.
Growth and Combat Judgment
Luke uses simple attacks rather than elaborate martial techniques, but can apply his strength precisely: he knocks Adam unconscious with a forehead flick before the boy can endanger bystanders and redirects an attack away from tournament spectators 65 164 213.
Greedy Wolf discovers that Luke is still growing stronger during their fight. Although Greedy Wolf can copy Luke’s moves and current strength, each copied version falls behind as Luke’s power increases 256.
