He used the bands as a weapon to block Black Dwarf's axe.

The bands tangled around the axe, stopping it in its tracks.

Then Thanos stepped in while the axe was trapped and punched Black Dwarf in the wrist.

Thanos was immensely powerful in his own right. The blow forced Black Dwarf's grip open.

The moment he let go, Thanos seized the axe.

Its sharp blade gleamed coldly in the sunlight. With a weapon in hand, Thanos felt much more secure.
