Inside was what looked like a bar where the port's fishermen came to rest. A group of men sat around a table, drinking straight from their bottles.

Ryan went straight to the counter. Beside it, a long-haired man had his head tipped back, pouring clear liquor from a white bottle into his mouth.

the man finished the bottle and wiped his mouth with a thick forearm. "You're here for me."

"Yeah. I heard you can talk to fish. I'd like to hire you as a translator." Ryan recognized him from the photo Wayne had provided. This was Kurr.

Kurr looked displeased. "You came all this way for that?"

"Most people can't do it. And a crisis is coming."

"There's no crisis. You're imagining things. Keep talking, and I'll tear you apart and throw you in the sea."

Kurr's voice was irritable. Once he had emptied his bottle, he asked the bartender for another and began pouring it down his throat.

Wayne, who had come with Ryan, watched Kurr's throat bob as he drank.
