It was an older Cadillac, probably a vehicle that had been assigned to the Villa long ago.
But since Ryan always flew everywhere, it had never seen any use.
Kimiko drove onto the road and patted the passenger seat.
"Get in, buddy."
"Do you know how to drive?"
"I've blown up tanks before."
"Then you must be a great driver."
"I stopped two tanks by blowing them up."
Ryan no longer wanted to talk. He silently stared at Kimiko.
This woman had probably never even touched a car.

"Where's the accelerator?"
"Try reaching the middle pedal with your foot."
"So that's where it is. Discovering new things always makes me happy."
Ryan remained expressionless. "If I didn't know a car crash couldn't hurt me, I'd already be out of here."
As they spoke, Kimiko released the handbrake and stepped on the accelerator and clutch. She shifted gears, and the car rolled onto the highway.
The road stretched across the land, a gray ribbon ahead of them flanked by yellow wasteland.
