"Didn't understand?" Ryan found the man's bewildered expression rather disappointing.
He gave his hand a gentle wave, and the Sword of the Vishanti dissolved into light.
As the blade vanished, red sparks drifted through the air like fireflies.
The keeper watched Ryan dismiss the spell and rubbed his brow. "I've never met a sorcerer like you. You learned the spells in those books in a single afternoon."
"Well, you've met one now." Ryan didn't mind reading, especially when the books taught him spells just like that.
He glanced toward the horizon. The sun was setting. "Can I come back tomorrow?"
"..." The Guard thought for a moment before answering. "You're welcome here anytime."
Life at Kamar-Taj was far from dull. After saying goodbye to the Guard, Ryan returned to his room.
He sat down and reviewed the books he had read that day. His Super Brain raced, sorting and organizing the knowledge.
His understanding of the spells gradually deepened.
Meanwhile, the Guard reported Ryan's activities to Mordo and Kaecilius.
Ryan's talent had begun to frighten Mordo. "He's growing too fast."
Kaecilius disagreed. "A Sorcerer like him is the future of Kamar-Taj."
They discussed it in the Hidden Stone Hall, Mordo's brow furrowed the entire time. "Kaecilius, we must report Ryan's existence to the Sorcerer Supreme as soon as possible. Let her decide."
"The Sorcerer Supreme." Kaecilius turned the title over in his mouth, his expression darkening.
In the end, though, Kaecilius nodded.
He knew how powerful the Sorcerer Supreme was. At Kamar-Taj, she was the figure everyone aspired to become.
Her name was known to all.
The Ancient One.
Ryan knew none of this. After reviewing the spellbooks, he climbed into bed and went to sleep.
