Background and History

Tang Changsheng inherits leadership of the centuries-old General’s Temple. Raised in its teachings, he studies not only Dao Arts but administration and diplomacy. In Great Chu’s Age of Dharma’s Decline, scarce Spiritual Qi slows his early cultivation and makes the temple’s older arts difficult to practice 9 26 520.

He builds the temple’s strength through disciples, formations and Yin Soldiers. He recruits Da Xiang to manage its affairs, shares improved cultivation methods with him and eventually entrusts him with control of the mountain-protecting formation. Tang also draws on the temple’s inherited land, investments and mineral deposits to fund its growth 292 441 636.

During the Red Trial in the Wuman World, Tang establishes a power base among the Black Rock Mountain stockades under the identity Hong Sheng. He secretly replaces Hongdong’s lost Ancestral Spirit with a Warrior Spirit he has refined, then uses military victories to build authority. Later, he infiltrates Shao Jun City, kills the Pan Tribe’s Crown Prince and frees tens of thousands of captives. Rather than immediately reclaim power within Hongdong, he turns to the wider war against the Pan forces 757 764 1053 1058.

Tang’s return of the long-lost Great Expansion Sword Diagram earns him formal recognition as a direct-line True Disciple of the Taiyi Immortal Sword Order. Tang is cautious without being passive. He checks for pursuit, studies opponents before committing himself and keeps powerful artifacts or plans concealed when revealing them would create danger. Once he decides to act, he can be swift and ruthless: he kills an ambusher before the man can finish explaining himself, and later uses a controlled corpse to impersonate Hongdong’s Wizard 20 754 910.

He treats power as something that needs resources, organization and reliable people. He delegates temple affairs to Da Xiang and Cloudtail Mountain’s administration to Wang Yufu, while weighing the cost of sustaining armies against the Spiritual Qi needed by his followers. His restraint is often strategic: he spares Qiang to preserve support in Hongdong and avoids killing senior Heavenly Court officials after defeating them 441 759 1195 1196 1023.

Tang resists being managed by stronger institutions. Even after gaining status in the Immortal Sects and Heavenly Court, he questions their plans and refuses to surrender what he and his forces have won 1392 1528.
