Background / History

The Uchiha are a Konoha clan known for the Sharingan and Fire Release. Their crest is a gunbai, a fan associated with their fire techniques 7 10. After the Nine-Tails’ rampage, the Sharingan mark seen in the beast’s eyes led Konoha’s leadership and villagers to suspect the clan, despite the absence of direct evidence against it 44 45.

Relations with Konoha deteriorate as the clan faces reduced Military Police funding, restricted missions, and surveillance by Root and ANBU. Clan head Uchiha Fugaku favors compromise, while hardliners demand a stronger response 6. Yongye’s attacks on Root and his public defiance of Danzō bring those divisions into the open: some clansmen rally behind him, while others question whether he carried out the killings near their compound 15 18.

When conflict between Root and ANBU threatens to erupt, Fugaku considers whether the clan could use the opening to seize power. Shisui, Itachi, and all four elders argue against intervention, citing the risk to the clan and the danger of foreign attacks. Fugaku does not commit the Uchiha to war 34 39 40.

Sharingan

The Sharingan is the clan’s signature eye technique, used to track movement and cast genjutsu 2 49.

• The clan’s developed genjutsu includes single-target control and illusions that affect groups 20.
• The Sharingan can copy movements and techniques, making a fighter’s apparent style unreliable evidence of their identity 36 44.

Fire Release

The Uchiha are renowned for Fire Release, though membership in the clan is not proof that someone performed a particular fire technique 7 10.

• An attacker’s use of the powerful Great Fire Annihilation, also called Majestic Destroyer Flame, helps Danzō cast suspicion on the clan 6 10.
• Shisui argues that a non-Uchiha could learn and use the technique 10.

Mangekyō Sharingan and Susanoo

These powers are documented for individual clan members, not the Uchiha as a whole.

• Fugaku reveals his concealed Mangekyō Sharingan when an ambush forces him to defend himself. His armored Susanoo withstands the attack and wields a chakra greatsword 34.
• Shisui also conceals a Mangekyō Sharingan. He refuses to display it, fearing that knowledge of more Uchiha power would encourage the clan toward conflict 41.

• Uchiha Fugaku — clan head whose preference for compromise is strained by Konoha’s pressure and his clan’s demands 6 39.
• Uchiha Itachi — Fugaku’s son; urges the clan not to exploit Konoha’s internal conflict 39.
• Uchiha Shisui — advocates restraint and warns that a civil war would harm both Konoha and the clan 3 39.
• Uchiha Yongye — attacks Root and challenges Konoha’s leadership, gaining support from some clansmen while clashing with the clan’s elders 15 18 40.
• Uchiha Kuteng, Tetsusai, Zhihuo, and Kiyoshi — the clan’s four elders; all advise staying out of a possible Root–ANBU battle 39.
• Uchiha Madara — a legendary clan member believed to have died fighting the First Hokage. Danzō claims that the masked attacker provoking Konoha’s factions is Madara, but does not prove the identification 44.

Relationships

• Konoha leadership — governs the village to which the clan belongs, but treats the Uchiha with growing suspicion after the Nine-Tails’ rampage 6 44 45.
• Root and Shimura Danzō — surveil the compound and accuse the clan of killing Root and ANBU personnel; Danzō demands Uchiha suspects be surrendered 5 9 12.
• ANBU — monitors the clan alongside Root. The possibility of an ANBU–Root battle prompts Uchiha leaders to debate whether to intervene 5 39.
