# Chapter 8 7. If You're Just a Passerby, Don't Set Flags
Barbarus, Morava Mountains, mountaintop.
It had been seven years since they escaped.
In those seven years, Heller Pass, a small village near the lords' territories, had long since fallen. The resistance, led by Mortarion, had moved to a new stronghold on the northern plains.
The resistance, known as the Death Guard, was steadily growing stronger. Initially, they were just organizing forces to resist nighttime attacks, but as time went on, more and more villagers joined them, and they soon expanded this new stronghold into the largest human territory to date.
In addition to organizing passive defenses at night, the resistance had also begun to try to actively strike during the dim daylight, annihilating beasts and minor lords near human-inhabited areas.
And now, the Death Guard, with its large number of elite warriors, was even launching attacks against the lords themselves.
Hades stood on a secluded mountain path, holding his scythe. Beside him stood a girl in full armor, holding a rifle.
The girl was completely covered to isolate herself from the poisonous fog of Barbarus, but her curvy figure and long black hair revealed her gender.
A few strands of black hair hung down from her gas mask. She occasionally raised her gun and fired, and with each shot, the brains of the puppets fleeing down the path splattered.
Hades remained silent, moving forward with his scythe. With a flash of the blade, the puppets that had been hit by a bullet but were still staggering finally fell.
"The battle above should be ending soon."
Hades shrugged. Fewer and fewer puppets were running down, proving that the battle between the resistance and Lord Dreigh was coming to an end.
"Another tyrant will be held accountable for his previous atrocities."
Hades looked back. Even with the gas mask, he could tell the girl was smiling, smiling for the upcoming victory.
Hades was stunned for a moment.
The black-haired girl was Herrela, Hades' partner in battle.
Long ago, before they moved their stronghold, during a village defense battle, Hades had chopped off the head of a pus-filled hound that had eaten her father with a single swing of his scythe, saving her sister.
After that, she was the only one willing to team up with Hades in battle.
Only her.
Others were always reluctant to work with Hades. Some even had inexplicable hatred towards him.
Hades had no idea why.
It wasn't like his combat skills were too bad, dragging others down. He wielded his scythe with incredible skill. Except for being unable to beat Mortarion, Hades was confident in calling himself the strongest scythe wielder.
Except that he couldn't use guns and other slightly more technological weapons, which might have led to a decline in his combat power.
For some reason, these weapons malfunctioned as soon as Hades touched them.
When Hades broke the seventh good gun Mortarion had given him, Mortarion gave him a nice scythe with a dark face.
"You should just go fight in close combat."
(The machine spirit was displeased due to the Untouchable.)
But he was perfectly fine with close combat, so why didn't they want to work with him?
Not only that, but the others in the stronghold were always reluctant to see Hades, even though they completely welcomed and loved Mortarion.
Although Typhon wasn't very popular because he was a hybrid of alien and human, Hades was much worse off than him!
To avoid this inexplicable unwelcomeness, Hades had to live in a small house in the most remote part of the stronghold. Usually, no one looked for him except Mortarion and Herrela.
Even Typhon didn't look for him anymore! They were the three leaders of the resistance back then!
"Sorry, Hades, I just... I always feel uncomfortable around you."
Was it because he was too talkative and offended people? Or was he just inherently unlikeable?
Hades admitted that he was a little troubled by this for a while, but then he instantly let it go.
Although he sometimes dreamed of fighting against the lords with Mortarion, becoming a high-ranking general and leading the people.
But to be honest, Hades wasn't the kind of person who was crazy about worldly power and the adoration of the masses.
He was just a homebody who liked to be alone, doing his hobbies freely.
So this was pretty good. No one bothered him, and since everyone disliked him, Mortarion couldn't arrange any management work for him. He just did his own research, such as continuing his gas mask development, and drawing mechanical sketches on paper—although things went wrong as soon as he touched machinery, the machines he designed were very reliable.
During battles, he would just find a remote place, take a scythe and Herrela to clean up the stragglers.
No intense battles, just casual slacking.
The battle was almost over, and he could occasionally chat with a girl.
To this, Hades said—
That's so awesome.
No more monsters were running down. Hades walked back to Herrela, stuck the scythe in the ground, and leaned on it, chatting.
"This battle was pretty quick. I thought Lazar would be difficult to deal with."
"The intelligence on this guy said he was very proficient in witchcraft."
Those proficient in witchcraft were difficult to deal with. They didn't have anyone who knew witchcraft on their side. Typhon hadn't revealed his Psyker identity, so the resistance could only rely on physical true damage to brute force their way through.
But they have someone like Mortarion who can deal true damage with a scythe and completely break the charts, making the battle much simpler.
It has to be said, without Mortarion, ordinary humans would find it difficult to match these Psychic Power-wielding lords.
Even now, their fighting pattern is still Mortarion taking on the elite monsters, while the mortal rebel army fights the small fries, supporting Mortarion on the side, firing cold shots and providing fire support to the enemy.
Mortarion can be said to have changed the battlefield situation with his own strength.
He is a Primarch after all.
"Victory ultimately belongs to humanity, we can win."
Seeing Hades relax, Herrela also put down the gun she had been holding and looked at Hades with a smile.
"My sister went to help with the last distribution of supplies, and we got a little extra cheese. I baked some cheese biscuits, would you like to come to my house later and I'll share some with you?"
To be honest, Herrela's cooking skills are really average; her creations only barely reach the "non-toxic" level.
You might as well give me the cheese, and I'll make something for you; don't waste the ingredients anymore.
Hades wanted to cry, but he didn't dare say it out loud. Herrela was one of his few good friends, and he didn't want to ruin the relationship.
So, every time, he would swallow a large amount of "non-toxic" food with tears in his eyes.
Sensing her ardent gaze, Hades silently swallowed his complaints.
"Okay, I like everything you make. That mushroom soup last time was pretty good too."
Good my ass?! There was a layer of purple unknown liquid floating on that thing?!
"Okay, my sister has a lot of cheese biscuits left; I'll pack them all up for you later."
"You always seem to enjoy eating them, and I'm happy to make them for you."
Herrela lowered her head a little shyly, gently drawing circles on the gun handle with her finger.
"When Lord Mortarion overthrows the rule of all the tyrants, and when supplies are no longer distributed on demand, I'll open a restaurant."
"I'll be the chef, Hades, would you like to come and be my assistant?"
At this moment, Hades didn't hear the hidden meaning in her words; his吐槽power was burning fiercely.
Girl, with your cooking skills, shouldn't I be the one in charge as the head chef?
Also, don't set up this kind of flag that looks like it might be a death sentence in the next second?!
As if to respond to Herrela's flag, the temperature around them suddenly dropped sharply, the puddles on the muddy ground began to freeze, and a layer of frost quickly covered the entire ground.
Not far from the path above them, space began to distort, and a claw covered in blood and broken bones stretched out from within.
In an instant, a scarred monster, about the size of a small car, appeared before them. Its basketball-sized eyes were staring intently at Hades and Herrela, and a foul stench emanated from its gaping maw.
Damn it, it's Psychic Power teleportation!!!
Hades could feel Herrela's body stiffen instantly beside him.
"Herrela."
Hades said softly.
"I'll hold it back for a while; you run up quickly and report to Mortarion that Lazar has escaped to this road."
Hades assumed the starting stance with his scythe.
"Don't worry about me; I'll just hold it off for a while, and then I'll run too."
"Go report it quickly, or everyone will die."
Below were the other members of the rebel army. Hades was sure that if he let Lazar run down there, it would be a one-sided massacre of the rebel army.
He planned to hold it off for a while, and if he was lucky, he would hold out until Mortarion arrived to support him.
If he wasn't lucky, he would delay as much as possible, then feign death or jump off a cliff and run.
But this was likely to further worsen his already poor interpersonal relationships.
Mortarion, you have to be strong and come quickly; don't make me feign death to escape; it's too embarrassing.
The monster, at the end of its rope, roared and pounced towards Hades. Its thick, twisted claws slashed fiercely at Hades' head!!
Hades shouted loudly, using his scythe to block the oncoming claws. The force of the impact made his arms go numb, and the specially steel-reinforced scythe handle sparked from the collision and friction!!!
"Run! Herrela!"
"Run!!!"
