"Uncle Er Ming, what is that?"
Tang Wulin instinctively stepped back. His blood and qi surged through his body as he tried to resist the cold radiating from the Stone Bed.
"The Ten-Thousand-Year Cold Jade Marrow Bed."
Niu Tian took over and began to explain.
"Back when Er Ming went to the Far North for fun, he accidentally fell into an ice cavern. Inside, he found a piece of Ten-Thousand-Year Cold Jade Marrow and a pile of Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice. But the two of us were Soul Beasts, and the rules of the Divine Realm forced us to suppress our Cultivation, so Er Ming carried the jade marrow back."
"So that's how it happened."
Tang Wulin's eyes widened. They were full of admiration. Divine Beasts! There probably aren't any Soul Beasts on the continent stronger than them, are there?
"Uncle Er Ming, you're amazing."
Tai Tan grinned foolishly at Tang Wulin's heartfelt praise. Only now did he truly feel the difference between the two children.
How did that Tang San end up with one spirit pearl and one demon pill?
Tai Tan naturally blamed Xiao Wu. She had always been mischievous, and her temperament had only mellowed as she grew older.
"Wulin, accept it."
"The information Tang San sent us mentioned the Golden Dragon King's seal. We can't help much with that, but the Ten-Thousand-Year Cold Jade Marrow Bed can calm your mind and steady your qi. It can dispel the fire in your heart and reduce the risk of your power running wild as much as possible."
"Go on, try it. You can't make us old men bury someone so young."
Niu Tian spoke earnestly from the side, his eyes full of concern.
He did not know how Tang Wulin had come to this era from the future, but the boy was Sister Xiao Wu's child. They would treat him as their own and would not worry about the rest.
"Thank you, Uncle Er Ming. Thank you, Uncle Da Ming."
The care in his uncles' words made Tang Wulin's heart tremble. He nodded firmly and accepted the precious gift.
"Hahaha, Wulin, no need to be so polite. Come on, sit down and try it."
Tai Tan's eyes crinkled with his smile. He gently tapped the Ten-Thousand-Year Cold Jade Marrow Bed, which was still giving off cold air, with a hand as broad as a palm-leaf fan, urging Tang Wulin to sit and feel it for himself.
Tang Wulin did not refuse. Curious, he sat down gently.
"Hiss—"
The cold did not rush into him all at once. It seeped up from beneath him in fine threads, gradually flowing into his body.
It was as though a bucket of cold water had been poured over the ferocity in his Golden Dragon King Bloodline, making much of it vanish in an instant. Tang Wulin's mind cleared, while his blood and qi began to circulate faster under the cold's stimulation, trying to drive the chill from his body.
After all he had learned recently, Tang Wulin was no longer wholly ignorant. The cold did not seem particularly aggressive. It felt more like pure, unclaimed energy of heaven and earth, much like the feeling he had after eating those rare Spirit Treasures.
"How does it feel?"
Tai Tan hurried to ask. Tang Wulin was still so weak that he might not be able to endure the cold.
"It helps a lot. Studying and cultivating have let me suppress some of the violence in my bloodline, but I still feel restless now and then. Sitting on this Cold Jade Marrow makes that restlessness disappear completely."
"It's just that, with my current strength, I can't stay on it for long."
Tang Wulin jumped off the Ten-Thousand-Year Cold Jade Marrow Bed and patted it with some regret.
Thanks to the changes Life Divine Power had made to his body, he could actually have endured it longer. But he had only broken two of the Golden Dragon King's seals so far, so suppressing the ferocity was not yet an urgent need.
"That's all right. As long as it helps."
Seeing that his gift was useful, Tai Tan breathed a sigh of relief. Satisfaction shone in his amber eyes.
"Since Er Ming has given you such a gift, I can't let him outdo me as the older brother."
Niu Tian chuckled. A pendant suddenly appeared in his hand. It looked like a leaf, green with a metallic sheen, and was about the size of an infant's palm.
"I made this pendant from one of my reverse scales. If you're in danger, Wulin, activate it. It will create a shield capable of blocking any attack below the divine level. I'll also receive a signal and immediately break through space to find you."
They could not stay at Tang Wulin's side every moment. To be safe, Niu Tian had used one of his reverse scales to make a protective charm for him.
Besides, contact between the Divine Realm and Douluo Continent had been severed for reasons they did not know. Even if they lifted the suppression on their strength, the plane would still restrain them somewhat. But a god was a god. Apart from the master recuperating at the Lake of Life, there was no one on Douluo Continent they feared, so long as they did not have to worry about the Divine Realm finding out.
The suppression was unpleasant, but their current strength was enough, so they had left it in place.
If Tang Wulin ever faced an enemy he could not withstand, however, they would show that enemy what a true Divine Beast was.
"Thank you, Uncle Da Ming."
Tang Wulin looked at Da Ming gratefully before carefully taking the pendant from Niu Tian. He did not know what a reverse scale meant to a Sky Azure Bull Python, but he knew how precious an item that could block attacks below the divine level must be.
If he was to cross time and find his father and mother, he could not die along the way. Without a doubt, this pendant was a safeguard for his life.
Niu Tian said nothing more. He merely reached out to rub Tang Wulin's head, a kindly smile on his face.
"By the way, Wulin, did you know you have an older sister?"
As though something had just occurred to him, Niu Tian raised an eyebrow and spoke in an odd tone.
"An older sister?"
Tang Wulin's mouth fell open. His father had never told him that! He had an older sister?
"That's right. The first two characters of each of your names come from your parents. Your sister is called Tang Wutong. The tong is from the Phoenix Perching Wutong Tree, meaning she's their little phoenix. Your lin means you're their Little Qilin."
Niu Tian recalled how Sister Xiao Wu had explained the names to them. He thought both names sounded lovely.
"Tang Wutong, Tang Wutong... my sister!"
Tang Wulin repeated Tang Wutong's name, his eyes growing brighter and brighter. Since arriving in this era, he had found more and more family. Now he even had a sister.
Back in kindergarten, he had listened enviously as other children talked about how amazing their older brothers and sisters were. He had never imagined he would have an older sister too.
"Is my sister amazing?"
Tang Wulin could not help saying what was on his mind. Only then did he realize how that sounded. His face flushed bright red, and he hurried to explain himself to the two of them.
Niu Tian and Tai Tan exchanged a glance, the corners of their mouths twitching. Both were struggling not to laugh. That Little Demoness was lazy to the bone. How could anyone call her amazing?
"Ahem. Your sister is on Douluo Continent too. You'll meet her once school starts."
Niu Tian raised a hand to his mouth and coughed twice, unable to hide the amusement in his eyes.
"My sister..."
Tang Wulin murmured the words with a smile. He gazed into the distance, as though he could see the sister he had never met.
