"Third brother?"
"Third brother, what's wrong?"
"Wulin?"
Two very different voices sounded beside Tang Wulin's ears. He slowly opened his eyes to find Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao looking at him with concern. Wang Dong had one hand supporting him while the other gently shook his head, and Huo Yuhao stood on his other side.
"I'm fine, sis... big brother, second brother. I was probably just too hungry. I zoned out for a moment."
Tang Wulin finally came to his senses. He scratched his hair and looked at them both with a sincere expression.
His father had already told him that time flowed differently in the Sea of Consciousness. They had talked for so long, yet only a few seconds had passed outside. There was no need to worry too much.
"That's good. You didn't answer when I spoke to you just now. I thought something had happened."
Wang Dong straightened up and patted her chest in relief. He had scared her half to death.
"Hehe, sorry, big brother, second brother."
Tang Wulin smiled sheepishly. But now, looking at Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao again, everything felt strange. How exactly had those two disguised themselves as girls?
"Then let's go eat!"
Wang Dong grabbed one of them with each hand and strode toward the exit, as though she were about to charge straight onto a battlefield.
"Food, food!"
Tang Wulin didn't mind. The thought that the person beside him was his sister actually made him happy. What was wrong with being close to his sister?
Huo Yuhao merely felt his pocket in silence before letting himself be dragged along with a helpless expression.
Each year had its own cafeteria. After asking someone for directions, the three of them arrived at the freshman cafeteria. There weren't many people inside, making it seem especially spacious.
"Why does it look so empty?"
Wang Dong glanced around in surprise.
"There aren't even any tables or chairs. How are we supposed to eat?"
Tang Wulin couldn't help widening his eyes. He had never been to the Outer Court before. How was he supposed to know it had no tables or chairs? Were they meant to eat while holding their food?
"I just saw a sign outside the cafeteria saying food can't be taken out."
Huo Yuhao opened his mouth and delivered the finishing blow.
"What kind of rubbish rule is that?"
Wang Dong sighed at the heavens. She was the young mistress of the Clear Sky Sect. Surely she couldn't squat in a corner with a boxed meal.
"Exactly!"
Tang Wulin nodded fiercely in agreement.
If it were the energy-rich food he usually ate, he wouldn't have cared. But one sniff told him the Outer Court's food was nothing special. If he wanted to eat his fill, he would be standing there for ages. He had no desire to become famous before classes even began.
At the thought, Tang Wulin couldn't help shivering.
"Why don't we have grilled fish?"
Wang Dong raised an eyebrow and held up a finger, struck by a good idea.
"Second brother's grilled fish is second to none under heaven."
Wang Dong's mouth was already watering. Huo Yuhao's grilled fish really was to her taste.
"Second brother's grilled fish?"
Tang Wulin hesitated, then agreed. Worst came to worst, he could eat another meal afterward.
"Please, second brother?"
Wang Dong tugged at Huo Yuhao and looked at him pitifully, like a kitty begging for a little fish.
Huo Yuhao couldn't help laughing at the sight of her and agreed.
Tang Wulin's mouth twitched. This was his real sister? Could he swap her for Huo Yuhao?
"Leave the rest to me."
With that, Tang Wulin walked up to a cafeteria window under Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao's gaze. He pulled a card from his Storage Soul Tool. The cafeteria auntie disappeared from the window and returned shortly afterward, now carrying a barbecue grill and a packet of seasonings.
"Let's go. We've got the equipment. The rest is up to second brother."
Tang Wulin casually picked up the grill, which was more than half as tall as he was, leaving the other two staring in astonishment.
"Third brother, you're incredibly strong."
Wang Dong folded her arms and looked Tang Wulin up and down, curious how such a small body could contain so much strength.
"Hehe, I'm a little stronger than other kids my age."
Tang Wulin smiled and nodded in acknowledgment.
He put the grill into his Storage Soul Tool. Students nearby were already pointing at him. He hadn't meant to attract attention; the grill was simply so light to him that it felt like nothing in his hands, and he had picked it up without thinking.
"I know a great place for a barbecue. I'll take you there."
Tang Wulin led the other two out of the cafeteria. Those strange looks really were hard to bear.
"Mmm!"
Wang Dong drew in a deep lungful of fresh air and stretched, feeling her spirits lift.
"I didn't know Shrek Academy had a place this nice. It's almost as good as my home."
Wang Dong continued her shameless boasting.
"This is Sea God Lake. The place I brought you to is already within the Inner Court, so of course the surroundings are nice."
Tang Wulin took the grill out of his Storage Soul Tool and gently set it on the ground, speaking without looking back.
"Third brother, are you hiding something from the two of us?"
Wang Dong suddenly turned around. Her short pink-and-blue hair swayed as she crossed the distance to Tang Wulin in a few steps and looked at him seriously.
"Huh?"
"Big brother."
"What could I possibly be hiding from you?"
Tang Wulin instinctively leaned his head back. His gaze wandered, his hands and feet grew awkward, and he scrunched up his nose as he spoke with a guilty air.
Something's not right.
Wang Dong narrowed her eyes at Tang Wulin. At first, she had only suspected he was hiding some connection to Shrek Academy. But his reaction was far too strong. That couldn't be all he was keeping from her.
"Did either of you buy fish?"
Huo Yuhao smiled at the two of them and spoke up to help Tang Wulin out.
"Oh, right. Grilled fish, but no fish."
Only then did Wang Dong remember they hadn't bought a thing, and she smiled awkwardly.
"I'll go buy some now. Wait for me."
Wang Dong figured second brother was doing the cooking and third brother had gotten the equipment. As the eldest, she had fallen short. She swiftly used Martial Soul Possession, and a pair of enormous butterfly wings unfurled behind her. Colors shifted across their surfaces, glittering in the sunlight. She shot into the sky and flew beyond Shrek Academy.
"So beautiful."
Huo Yuhao couldn't help admiring the radiant butterfly. Then he noticed Tang Wulin had gone quiet. When he turned, he found the boy's face scrunched up.
"What's wrong..."
"Third brother."
Huo Yuhao paused, but asked anyway.
Tang Wulin naturally couldn't tell him the truth. His thoughts had simply run wild. The Clear Sky Hammer, the Blue Silver Emperor, and the Soft Bone Rabbit—how had they produced a butterfly? Things he had once overheard the neighborhood aunties saying flashed through his mind, and he suddenly felt utterly lost.
(Tang San: Give me a break. Pulling strings to get her a Butterfly God Divine Position to inherit wasn't easy, all right?)
"Yuhao, where is this?"
"No, wait. Who's that human boy?"
"No, wait. What on earth is that thing?"
"Aaaah!"
The Sky Dream Ice Silkworm let out an earthshaking scream in Huo Yuhao's Sea of Consciousness.
