History
Yu Xiaogang is with Tang San and their allies in Heaven Dou Imperial City when the Sky Screen appears. Asked to explain it, he claims it is the Angel God’s work despite not knowing its origin. His apparent certainty earns Ning Fengzhi’s praise and prompts the group to prepare for an attack 2.
When the screen predicts Spirit Hall’s destruction, Yu initially assumes his own wisdom will bring it about and celebrates the prospect of avenging his clansmen. He offers to train Heaven Dou’s army and the remaining Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect disciples. Once Dugu Bo points out that Spirit Hall can see the prediction too, Yu fears assassination and seeks Ning Fengzhi’s protection 4. Learning that Tang San’s future divine power will be decisive embarrasses him, but he takes pride in having trained a future god and directs Tang San toward Sea God Island 5.
Yu stays in Heaven Dou City when Tang San flees. He expects his Spirit Hall Elder Token to offer some protection, but Qian Daoliu confiscates it and expels him from Spirit Hall when Yu tries to prevent Tang San’s capture 8 11.
Personality
Yu is protective of his reputation as a theorist: he disguises his ignorance of the Sky Screen, welcomes praise for his supposed wisdom, and angrily rejects Xiao Ran’s criticism of his abilities 2 4 8. His attachment to Bibi Dong remains strong enough to hurt Liu Erlong when Qian Renxue’s parentage becomes public 2.
His hatred of Spirit Hall hardens into fanaticism. After hearing that Dugu Bo will poison 500,000 Spirit Hall soldiers, Yu calls the killing righteous and tells Dugu Bo not to regard the soldiers as people. Dugu Bo is appalled 24.
