That uncanny laughter echoed over the mixed region of the Star Dou Great Forest.
It was not loud, but it carried a terrifying power. It reached every ear with perfect clarity, impossible to ignore.
The Blood Moon Wolf King's pupils contracted. Its blood-red fur stood on end as it whipped its head around, sensing the presence of someone powerful in that voice.
As a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, it had an exceptionally keen sense for danger.
Something unclean was approaching.
The uncanny voice came again, but this time it sounded perfectly serious.
"A poem, a measure of wine, a long song, a sword at the ends of the earth."
A carefree recitation rang out from above. No one knew when the white-clad figure had appeared in the middle of the battlefield.
A wine gourd hung at his waist, and he held a long sword. Its blade was thin as a cicada's wing, yet it carried an indescribably keen edge.
His robes were whiter than snow, his long hair loosely tied back. A hint of drunkenness rested between his brows, along with an easy, unconcerned freedom.
It was Li Bai: wine, sword, and poetry; poetry, sword, and wine.
He did not even look the Blood Moon Wolf King in the eye. He let go of his sword, leaving it suspended behind him.
Then he leaned back against it as though it were a wooden post, striking an impossibly smug pose in midair.
Yet that casual gesture left the Blood Moon Wolf King afraid to breathe. Its paw had barely risen before it froze halfway up.
For the first time, fear appeared in its savage wolf eyes.
It wanted to kill the man before it. It wanted to kill the others. But it discovered it could not move at all.
Overwhelming fear drove it to struggle. It roared where it stood, howling wildly, but nothing freed it. The young swordsman had pinned it in place.
One man and one sword held a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast at bay.
Clutching her wound, Zhang Lexuan stared blankly at the white-clad figure's back. For a moment, she even forgot to breathe.
Soon, several more figures flew in from afar, appearing one after another.
One was a spirited young woman with a high ponytail and a red-tasseled spear.
Her spear's momentum blazed like fire. Just standing there, she radiated a fearless drive that would defy heaven itself. She was Yun Ying.
Another was a stern man in armor, his arms folded across his chest. His helmet concealed most of his face, leaving only a pair of unreadable eyes. He gave off an air that warned strangers to stay away. He was Kai.
There was also a man in blue-green robes whose presence felt like a spring breeze. His eyes were gentle, and a faint smile always lingered at his lips. He was Zhao Huaizhen.
Last came a slender young woman. Rather than flying overhead, she hopped onto a rock and craned her neck to peer ahead. She was Cai Wenji.
Li Bai glanced down from the air, then turned to Zhao Huaizhen.
"What are you looking at?"
"Save them!"
"Those people are about to die!"
At Li Bai's words, everyone finally looked at the Shrek students whose lives hung by a thread.
They were all gravely wounded. The gashes torn by claws were deep enough to expose bone.
The wounds also carried blood-colored Soul Power with a powerful corrosive force. It kept eating away at their blood and Soul Power, preventing them from stopping the bleeding. Their blood continued to flow, and their breathing had grown terribly faint.
Cai Wenji immediately raised her hand to release her Martial Soul. Green light flowed across the Shennong Harp as she prepared to heal them.
But just as she was about to act, Li Bai turned his head toward Zhao Huaizhen.
"I'm talking to you, support. Hurry up and heal them."
Li Bai spoke evenly.
"Zhao Huaizhen, get over there. Cai Wenji handles control. Why should the control specialist do the healing?"
The smile vanished from Zhao Huaizhen's face, and his mouth twitched. He was a mighty jungle king! Fine. Right now, he really was support.
"I know, I know."
Zhao Huaizhen shook his head helplessly and walked forward. He brought his hands together before his chest, and a smooth, lustrous piece of jade appeared above his palm. As color flowed through it, rich spiritual energy stirred.
This emerald-green gem Martial Soul was indeed his support Martial Soul.
"Support Gem, activate."
Zhao Huaizhen spoke softly. Two yellow, two purple, three black, and two red Soul Rings appeared beneath him—the nine-ring optimal configuration.
His fourth Soul Ring flared. Green light so dense it seemed almost solid poured from his gem Martial Soul, instantly enveloping everyone who was injured.
It was life force in its purest form.
Wounds deep enough to expose bone began to close before their eyes. They scabbed over, the scabs fell away, and fresh pink skin grew beneath them.
The corrosive Soul Power was purified and driven out by the green light. Color soon returned to their faces, and utter astonishment filled their eyes.
Just what level of healing was this?
Even raising the dead and growing flesh over bare bones could hardly surpass it, could it?
A moment ago, they had been at death's door. Now they could leap about as if nothing had happened. It defied all reason.
Zhang Lexuan was healed as well. A warm current swept through her body. The three claw wounds across her chest that had nearly killed her vanished in an instant, and much of her Soul Power returned.
She stared at Zhao Huaizhen, who was still radiating green support light, and drew in a sharp breath.
That terrifying recovery speed was beyond belief.
Watching Zhao Huaizhen heal them, Li Bai tipped back his wine gourd and took a swig. Then he chuckled, plainly taking pleasure in Zhao Huaizhen's misfortune.
"Don't laugh at me, Old Bai. The pot's calling the kettle black."
Zhao Huaizhen did not look up. The green light in his hands never faltered, and he went on at an unhurried pace. "You got nerfed into the ground too."
"So what?"
"Good thing you were summoned early. You got here before I was nerfed. Otherwise, you'd be like me now, stuck with a gem Martial Soul."
"I really would've hated losing my Green Lotus Sword Song."
Li Bai raised an eyebrow and swung the wine gourd in his hand. "But you? Your Three Thousand Thunderbolt Movement is gone. Hahaha!"
Li Bai was being supremely obnoxious, but aside from his livid expression, Zhao Huaizhen made no attempt to argue.
So what if he was support? His support abilities were first-rate. He would not stoop to Li Bai's level.
Once Zhang Lexuan recovered from her shock, she finally remembered who they were.
She had only met them a few times before, but now it came back to her.
"King's Escort Agency?"
"You're from the King's Escort Agency!"
Disbelief filled her eyes. "Zhao Huaizhen, Li Bai, and Cai Wenji—what are you doing here?"
"Oh! It's Sister Zhang Lexuan."
Sharp-eyed Cai Wenji recognized Zhang Lexuan at once and hopped over with her little harp in her arms. She plucked a string, sending another gentle green light onto Zhang Lexuan and healing the last traces of her injuries.
"Hello, Sister Zhang Lexuan! What brings you all here?"
Cai Wenji tilted her head.
Still shaken, Zhang Lexuan asked her the same question.
Cai Wenji answered as though it were obvious.
"Li Bai, Yun Ying, and Uncle Kai are going jungling. We came to the Star Dou Great Forest to build up our jungle-blade stacks."
"Basically, we're here for a team outing!"
